How is the mattress quality?

Just curious on how the mattress quality is in the new 21s? We just ordered the 21NE and am curious if we should be looking in to replacement mattresses.

If the mattress in the 21 is the same quality as in our 2019 Eascape 19, I think you will be happy. We did install the Froli system under the mattress which helps comfort, but more importantly lets the mattress breath.

My wife and I find the mattress as good as the one we have at home.

The problem is everyone has their own idea of what a "good" mattress feels like. I don't like super soft mattresses (although I, like the John Denver song, have great memories of my grandmother's feather bed on visits.

I find the Escape 21C mattress provides enough support that it is comfortable. The first time I slept on it I thought it was a bit too firm, but that changed within the first week. In fact, when I got home 7 months later, I found I had to remove the 2" topper on my home mattress to feel comfortable.

Comfort is very subjective. Just check out the number and styles of mattresses available for a sticks n' bricks home. I can sleep on a brick. And have slept comfortably on a concrete slab with nothing more than a thin sleeping bag. Others are like the Princess and the Pea.

Definitely good enough for camping.

The mattress in our 19 is comfortable. We tried it for a while and then added a foam topper from Costco. Now It is really comfortable and we get great sleeps.
Like others have said comfort is subjective.

That’s my wife Donna, “Princess and the pea.” If there is a wrinkle in the bottom sheet it bugs her and she can’t sleep. We changed out the mattress in our 21 after the first year be cause she said she could feel the springs, and put in a memory foam one. Finally after 2 years of storing it I tried to give the original one away but no one would take it, couldn’t donate it because of the virus. So unfortunately it went to the dump this last Thursday. As far as quality, I thought it was a good mattress.

Hi: Bluesky... When we picked up our 5.0TA in 2014 the first thing my wife wanted to do was replace the mattress even though it was new. Six years later we're still sleeping on the ETI pillow top mattress!!!
If it was good enough for the company president it was good enough for me. Alf

We were very impressed with the quality and comfort of the ETI mattress. We added a 2" memory foam topper to it, and it is every bit as comfy as our much more expensive memory foam mattress at home.

The mattresses have improved over the years. I believe the early trailers had a 5” mattress and now they are 8”. On the 5.0 and 19 you can fit any standard queen (60x80). On the 19 it is a bear to get in there. It will be a tight fit especially in the back corners but it works.

We discussed buying a new mattress for our 21 but for what they wanted for a custom built inner spring mattress the topper was much more economical
How they can charge that much extra to eliminate one small corner of a mattress amazes me

Thanks everyone for your input, much appreciated. Wait and see for sure but it sounds like a mattress topper will be forth coming.

No topper needed for us. I think the first couple mornings we felt some discomfort, but that went away and I actually sleep better on it than the expensive mattress at home. I'd give it a try before 1) spending extra dollars 2) adding weight 3) adding height.

I needed a topper my hips hurt at night. I bought a gel topper from Costco. I always like a soft bed- the mattress was a bit hard.

We have a new 19. We just slept on our mattress 5 nights. We’re very happy with the mattress. Another reason Escape is better.

In 2014 we asked Escape about a firmer mattress for our on-order 21; they put us in direct contact with their mattress maker in Alberta to work it out. Had them build the most firm mattress that they could, and they delivered it to Escape along with their usual deliveries. Escape gave us $200 credit we used against the new mattress instead of theirs - I think the new mattress net cost to us was $300. Sleeps wonderful with just a 2 inch topper on it!

Escape's RV mattress is probably better than most as it is likely still sourced from Ducan Industries in Lethbridge, Alberta. Still, RV mattresses or even most innerspring mattresses break down pretty quick.

We were fortunate to get a modest credit to forgo the stock mattress- they don't do that anymore and charge plenty if you want to buy same. Instead we built our own with 5" closed cell foam foundation and a 3" latex topper. After 6 years it is still perfect.

Added a bed bag to the mattress on our 2019 21 and we sleep better than at home.
Of course it might have something to do with where we're sleeping while camping.

Ain’t that the truth. At home we can be up and down at night, toss and turn, wide awake at 5am. When we’re boon docking, we sleep like a rock! Sometimes we’re right out till 9am.
