This measurement was one of the ones I included in my huge write up and photo display on a thread someone else started on the new 2017 trailer. Could not tell you which page it's listed on, though.

And it might vary, depending on if you get the stock mattress from ETI or provide your own (which we are). And if ETI always installs the shelf in the exact same place each time (heck if I know; just speculating here).
28.5" from the top of the mattress to the bottom of the shelf. 38" if you get rid of the shelf (which we are) - may not be exact as I had to measure around the shelf.

Thanks as well. I called to let Escape know to delete the shelf in ours too. The shelf seems to be a head knocker if you watch TV or read in bed. I'm having the bathroom wall reinforced - if I need a shelf, that seems to be the place to put one.

We omitted the shelf. When we were given that measurement, it was less. Perhaps the shelf placement has changed or the mattress. Glad to have no shelf there to sit up straight for reading.

Yeah, I like to sit up more while reading in bed (as opposed to laying more or less flat), so not getting that shelf is quite necessary. Plus, I didn't feel like putting stuff up there and then having to put it all away while in transit. I have something planned for my stuff that will get made after we get the trailer and hopefully it'll work as well as I hope it will. Photos on that mod after we get The Trailer!
And who knows, maybe the measurement changed between the First and Second Gen trailers.

Since the bed is longer than it's width and with the reinforced bath wall we sat across the bed leaning against the bath wall to read or watch tv, actually the tv is at the dinette so just reading. The shelf, as others mentioned is indispensable for tissues, iPhone charging, alarm clock, particularly for those who made the end of bed cabinet full length.
