When i picked up the 5.0 at Sumas, I didn't get chocks! I did get x-chocks, but I did not trust them at first. So I kept the trailer hooked up to the TV the entire time. I never even put down the Stabilizers.

I was alone, so the demands of my wife did not intercede. I noticed slight wiggle when I rolled around when waking up, but that was about it. As stated, I tried to set up on a purely un level site once and even thou I was no where near the 10% rule for the refer, I could not get comfortable. The only way to make it work, was to detach, chock up and level her out. Colorado National Monument for those wondering. That campground stinks!

But otherwise the king pin attachment provides a small level of stability as do the twin axles. We never worry about it. I always mention it to my wife to set the proper expectations, but for a quick night, it is our standard operating procedure. And we love getting out early and enjoy a morning Sun low on the horizon.

Most of my "rest stops" are at stops which are paved and relatively level. I park with the big rigs since the signs direct "Trucks and trailers" this way, otherwise I pick a corner of the lot, disconnect from the tow vehicle 7 pin and plug in my lights, go inside and sleep

Why do you disconnect? Is there an advantage to doing that in a parking lot? Do you need to do that to be level?

I never do this. Most new vehicles trailer power disconnects when the vehicle is off so there is no reason. Much older vehicles sometimes left power on and a big draw could possibly bring its charge down.

Something that you cannot do with a campsite when overnighting but you can do in a parking lot is . . . Be sure to park down hill if you cannot find a level spot.

Why? You can level with the tongue jack if downhill, not much you can do if parked up hill.

Its just a personal preference thing of mine. It may be silly but I don't like the thought that the stress the WDH puts on the tow vehicle and trailer is constantly there while I’m sleeping.

Haha Alf. That is not something I usually worry about since I overnight in well established overnight spots. Last February, I had a semi pull in right next to me at the Olive Pit in Corning, CA as I was going to bed. The entire rest of the parking lot was empty, but I guess they wanted company

I disconnect the umbilical only so I can jump the batteries to the trailer’s running lights if I stop in a high traffic area; it’s a safety thing. It’s not because there is concern that the vehicle’s battery will be drawn down. My tow vehicle cuts power a few minutes after the ignition is switched off.

I am the opposite, preferring not to draw attention to our trailer. Not a fan of the looks of running lights on while parked either.

Never had anything but good fortune at these stopovers.

Well the trucks certainly like to leave their lights on and I am parking with the trucks and would rather be seen than not seen, why not leave them on for safety reasons.

I am a bit confused about the safety thing. What is unsafe? I certainly have never felt that way. And, how do having lights on make it more safe?

No big deal though, we all do what is best for ourselves. [emoji4]

Only in real cold weather have I seen trucks keep running with lights on.

Anyway, gotta get ready. The kids will soon be coming for treats. [emoji106][emoji16]

For the reason Jim (Mr. Norman) stated. I turn them on if I am staying at a crowded rest stop where large trucks (18 wheelers, AKA transport trucks) are frequently moving in and out. I have seen more than one “accident” in rest areas caused by tired or careless drivers, both truck and automobiles. Turning the lights on simply makes you more visible in these locations/conditions. Obviously, I do not jump the terminals to light the trailer up like a Christmas tree if I am stopping at a campground for a quick overnight and hoping for an early departure.
