Red face Lesson Learned .. Stow the Table ...

Greetings all,

I thought I would pass on some real world experience from our last outing this past summer.

We had taken the Coastal Route from San Francisco North along HWY 1, If you like 2 lane roads and turns this is the place for you ...
We had great views of the Pacific Ocean and stops along the way to watch whales resting/feeding near shore.

We did have one "unscheduled extreme course correction" that led to the reason for this post:

Both of the table mount brackets failed:

... Now I have a bit of time to re-think our dinette layout

Warm Regards,

I'm betting I'm not the only one wanting to read details about the "unscheduled extreme course correction."

Yikes!!! :

Sorry you had to swerve. Or whatever you had to do

And

We are getting the Springfield pedistal

Your post makes me think that it might be wise to have the dinette in BED mode when towing.

Just because of physics.

And just because we can.

?

Having read about others having the table bounce around or having the base mounting screws ripped from the floor, I installed nylon straps with quick release buckles on either side of the dinette that are tucked under the dinette cushions when not travelling. Takes less than a minute to securely strap the table in place when getting ready to move.

What direction do you strap? A picture perhaps?

From side to side. I will post photos. I will also post my "preventing the bathroom door flying open when travelling" solution.

As promised, the photos. One shows the mounting piece (not sure what these bracketts are correctly called; this one is stainless steel). My better half machine sewed the straps to the bracketts before installation, another shows where the strap is tucked when not in use, snd the third shows the table strapped down for travelling. I use padding on both sides but it is probably not necessary, so the photo shows the padding on one side but not the other for comparison. The padding also tucks under the seat cushion.

Edit: only one of the three photos uploaded.

The single photo phenomenon is an iOS thing. Use a computer browser to upload more than one at a time.

Are you using the picture tool or the attachment tool. Attachment allows up to four, picture is just one.

Manage attachments. I added three pictures and hit upload, bit only one actually uploaded.

In discussions of straps to hold the refrigerator and other doors closed, this was called a "footman loop".

And, as promised, my bathroom door security strap photos.

One picture shows a standard snap fastener at the top of the door. It is high enough up to be screwed into the framing inside the door and it sits atop a slightly larger washer.

Another picture shows the strap as it dangles, in the way of nothing and pretty much out of sight when it is not in use for traveling. It is 1-inch nylon and is secured with a screw (vertical) going up into the framing at the top of the door frame.

The other picture shows the strap snapped onto the door as it wood be for traveling.

For the record, Monty (the moose) supervised the installation!

Nice solution! Do you just have one on top or is there a second at the bottom?

Just one on the top. Really no need for one on the bottom.
