I saw that and thought about our fellow RVers who prefer boon docking to staying in regular campgrounds. You always want to think that people who are out camping alongside you are honest and trustworthy but this proves it pays to be diligent.

Yes this is very sad but this could happen anywhere, seems to happen more in real neighborhoods though then in the RV community. We can only hope they catch the people and I hope with time peace to their loved ones.

Enjoy the journey.

For those who don't know Corpus Christi is in the lower portion of the State. Not in the Rio Grande valley but on the way there. The further South you go in Texas the more contact you will have with illegal aliens. Most of these folks are good people trying to improve their lives but there is a percentage looking for any opportunity to profit at your expense. Of course we have our home grown criminals as well. Since the truck and trailer were seen entering Mexico I am assuming offender was from there. If you camp in remote and lonely locations you will have only you for protection. Be Safe.

Agree, Our farm is about 60 mi from the border on the coast. We have a problem now and then with illegals coming thru. All private roads between the coast and Hwy 77. Easy to find anyone who does not belong. We are the 4th least populated county in the country(432).

We treat they with respect and give then a meal if they want. They always do. Most are just looking for a better life and are no trouble. We notify the Border Patrol and none has ever given us any real trouble.

Another reason to have a large dog with you, may help to be a deterrent for strangers.

Doesn’t quite look like an immigrant, more like an angry white dude. Seems this is the predominant case lately, and another very unfortunate incident.
There was one a few years back at a rest stop in NM with prison escapees from N AZ that involved older RV couple.
Definitely have to use caution when out there and occasionally things don’t go well. Hopefully they’ll get these people apprehended quickly.
Prayers for the family in healing the loss.

I belong to a camping and RV group. I just grabbed a screen shot in the thread. It's a private group, so you would need to be a member to share from there.

Boondocking in Texas, particularly on Padre Island, has historically been very safe. So sad.

Yes someone will probably recognize them but now it looks like they've made it to Mexico so up to the Mexican government to care enough to look for them. Not sure how much faith I would have it that. Hoping though anyone linked to this terrible crime gets what they deserve.

What a Tragic event! Boondocking in far south Texas, or even in other areas of Texas now, is not as safe as it used to be. Mostly because of the illegals, and more importantly, the gangs that have infiltrated TX.

My In-law is a detective down there... and he has been warning us that the problem is getting worse exponentially. It’s not safe. He’s told us about so many horrific cases, that so much violence happens that doesn’t make the news...

Also, two friends of ours have ranches, one near the border, the other in remote south central Texas. Through the years, both have had many experiences with illegals...yes, some were threatening, as well as violent. Most recently, they’ve had items stolen, with increasing frequency. They no longer feel safe down there.

So, there definitely are areas in TX I wouldn’t feel safe Boondocking. South Padre and far south Texas amongst them.

THIS crime does NOT appear to have been committed by an “illegal” (nor unauthorized) immigrant. So, let’s please not wander off into speculation and biases.

True, but they did head south. One would think Customs has their personal info and I'm sure warrants have been issued. Not sure of visiting anywhere down there. I'm happy north of the border....
