Mailing fabric to ETI

For those who have mailed fabric to ETI did you take it off the long roll and fold it and place it in a box or did you send it on the long roll? I'm thinking it will be more expensive to send the long box - I will be shipping through the postal service.

Our fabric came in a long roll that was nicely package so we just took the labels off and replaced them with new USPS ones. ETI left the extra in the trailer when they shipped it.

I would think that would have cost a small fortune since it would go by dimensional weight.

I know there was a seller in Canada that shipped for free to ETI, or some such. I looked into that, but ended up ordering from Patio Lane in Florida as I was gonna haul it up there myself, along with other things.

You might want to find out how large the roll is, how heavy and then find out the shipping cost via USPS' website. Then compare to the Canadian seller.

I just ordered the fabric from Sailrite in the u.s. and they shipped it direct to ETI. Many people on the forum have used them.

The extra has been given to us by ETI still on the roll, so I would guess that is how it is shipped.

You can check the shipping charges on the their web site.

They also have a very nice program for sending samples when you are picking out fabric, so you do get to see the actual fabric.

I already have the fabric here at home, I just need to mail it. I bought it through Joann's Fabrics.

USPS package pricing for larger packages is sometimes priced using 'dimensional weight', but rarely. I don't think it will matter in this case how it's packed, but they have a calculator of sorts to help you figure it out. It's geared more to showing you that USPS is a cheaper option than some other carriers, because they use dimensional weight more often in determining price.

Thanks, I tried the calculator and looks like there is no dimensional postage through the USPS. I will be shipping it through them. Thanks for everyone's input.

Shipped my fabric today via the US Postal Service. I sent a long roll of fabric - 13 yards, they did not charge me dimensional postage.

Good to hear. The USPS rarely charges dimensionally. Whenever I gripe about how in the age of e-mail they've become nothing more than a junk mail delivery service, I remind myself that they're still a pretty good parcel service.

And from a Canadian shipping here from the US, they are by far my preferred way to go. They charge a flat $10 brokerage fee always built into the price, and the shipping costs themselves are usually very competitive. I hate when UPS shows up and wants a huge brokerage fee, often $40-$100+, just to take a few moments to do some routine paperwork.
