Mattress pads for small dinette or cot

For those of you who sleep on the 17b or 15 small dinette, do you use an extra mattress pad? If so, what kind, did you cut it to fit? (17b)? How thick? Over the cushions? I have a friend coming camping and want to figure out a comfortable bed for her.

Bobbi, I used a thicker (geezer) rei self inflatable pad over cushions. Worked well.

Thanks, that's one option I was thinking about. Did you use a self-inflating one or something you had to blow up?

Self inflating but you have to add a few puffs if more firmness is wanted.

We use a 2" foam mattress pad on our cushions. I'd never know it wasn't a mattress if you didn't tell me.

I use a 3" memory foam mattress over the cushions. I started out with two 3" mattresses (cut to fit from a twin) but it was too soft for me so finally removed one.

We use a 3-inch "Mainstay" mattress pad from Walmart on the bed of our 21C. I bought it as a cheap trial mattress topper, but it has turned out to be just fine. I was surprised as I'm not a huge Walmart fan or a fan of a lot of their brand offerings, but it has been better than expected. The problem you may have is where to store it when you want to use the dinette.

I probably wouldn't take it along most of the time so where to store it isn't a big deal. (Garage...)

Not quite the same as your question but close: We built our 2018 19' with a dinette in the rear and the front as a single bed. We then convert the dinette to another bed at night. We keep it simple by using this item below which I think we purchased from Costco but is now available at Amazon. It folds easily and adds a nice comfortable bedding between the bench cushions and our aging bodies.

When my daughter and son in law join us, they bring their inflatable backpacking pads to lay on the cushions. Seems to work well for them and I don't have anything to store.

This friend has no camping gear- has never been camping except one weekend in a rustic cabin. And I stopped backpacking before those nice inflatable pads came around. I think we'll go with a foam topper cut to fit, and maybe covered with a slip made from a sheet. I'd like to do it before our Ft. Casey Rally so at least she can try it out for a short trial if not an overnight.
