Microwave: built in or cabinet?

Even so, if you plan to install microwave later - ask Escape to not install the microwave door.

The inverter microwave model is intriguing...but so far we have not been able to find one small enough to slide into and out of the microwave cabinet. They all seem to be on the big side...so we'll keep looking. Albeit, the ETI one has been great - we use it (and our oven) a lot.

There's another thread talking about hobbies, well, looking for new RV items like this for our 21 has definitely turned into a fun hobby for us. Can't tell you how many times we've clicked on various links that you all post here, and we not only get one for us, we sometimes get a couple more for family Birthday/Christmas gifts since we all like to RV. The Panasonic Genius Prestige NN-SD372S Microwave Oven requires cutting the width of the opening of the standard 21 microwave cabinet by about 3/4".

I installed a cute retro Daewoo microwave and attached 1 1/4” aluminum angle (with radiused corners and painted black to match the oven) to each side with two sided Gorilla tape. I attached these to the cabinet with screws with caps for license plates which match the round chrome knobs on the oven. Only caution is to stow the glass turntable when traveling so it won’t open the door and fly out on fast, bumpy, left hand turns.

We nixed the microwave in favor of a larger fridge in our 19, and are happy with the choice. To be fair though, we can't stand microwaved food, and the one in our house is a glorified popcorn popper. Everyone's different, and options are good.

I fully agree on the food cooked in a microwave, but microwave popcorn is not very good either. We do ours on the stovetop and just add a little butter and salt or maybe some other spice.

At home our microwave mostly reheats coffee that was neglected, but when camping we find the time to drink it while it is hot.

ETI modified my 5.0 TA 5th Wheel build sheet by putting only the gas cook top, (without the oven), and opened the space below for my Convection/MW oven: Special Models for RVs can be found at: Convection ovens are at least 40% faster cooking than gas ovens)

Yes-- modifying and accessorizing our trailers counts as a hobby in and of itself. I thought about that when posting in the hobby thread but didn't mention it. I've certainly spent enough money doing it.

• Never leave the microwave glass plate in there when traveling.
• There seem to be plenty of small microwaves out there that fit if you don't get the factory one.

700 watt Magic Chef from Home Depot fits with no problems under burner cabinet on '21 Could have gone to a bigger unit.

Our Escape 19 is being built with a hole for a Convection/Microwave. My wife cooks a lot at home with a similar convection microwave and she really wanted the same features in our trailer. that will pretty much restrict you to cooking when you have shore power, or carrying a generator. trying to run a 1000W appliance with an inverter off your batteries will only work for a few minutes at a time (figure 100 amps draw allowing for 80% inverter efficiency... an hour will take a 200AH dual GC battery setup down to its safe discharge limit).

I knew I would practically need shore power or a generator to run the what we bought and was okay with that. So, is that why you opted for a traditional microwave? I figured if it is a problem for us, I could always buy a small microwave to assist us. In the meantime, I have a happy wife.

I haven't used our microwave yet (and hardly ever use the one at home), we use the propane oven far more often. in fact, I think we use the oven more often than the stove top.
