The US dollar from 2016 to 2022 lost 17.1% of its value, according to official numbers:

The official 'inflation rate' is, if anything, much lower than reality. If the Canadian dollar is shrinking by the same amount, that just tells you that the two currencies are closely tied.

Back in 2019 he paid C$33,045 (Canadian), which at the 75% exchange rate at the time amounted to US$25,459.

It doesn't surprise me that he's asking some $11k over his buying price, because that's what Escape fans will pay these days. What does surprise me is that the current price, 2022 after the latest price rise, for his Build Sheet, is about US$34,800. So he's asking more for his three-year-old E19 than you would pay for a new one with the same specs!

Even more surprising, he'll probably get it. The reason, of course, is that the new one means a wait of maybe 18 months. The 2019 is already built, and if you need an Escape for this summer, you've got to pay the price.

The previous thread on this crazy market migrated to a discussion of classic car prices. Understandable, except the reason classic cars increase in value is because they aren't being built any more. Escapes are still being built, but just not fast enough to meet the demand!

Strange times.

Are you going to post whatever item it is that you have for sale, or is it that you only wish to comment on what others are selling?

Seems like Generac has the market cornered in the public mind these days.
In our neck of the woods you can buy Generac but there is no local service and you pretty much have to coordinate the install yourself. Kohler is the best option around here. We've had good luck with ours.

Sure, once I can get my hands on an Escape, I'll sell my Casita.

But you have a point, I suppose. The moderators can move this thread to the general discussion section if they want. Fine with me.

We bought a Kohler 14kw generator in 2011. Paid $3,600 for the unit and $1,500 to install including concrete pad, Auto transfer switch and circuit rewiring and propane hookup.

Today the generator would be closer to $5,000 and the install another $5,000. I have a neighbor who considered the same generator we bought 10 years ago and held off until recently. Total cost near $10,000. Many installers around here have a simple bid procedure; take the price of the generator and charge that again for install no matter how simple or complex the project.

Wouldnt want to live here in the boonies without a Generac! We have a 10KW…enough to power everything! The wait is worth it…and it was our best purchase..peace of mind.
They seem to have always been in short supply. In 2003 I shopped for a standby generator. A 7K would have worked with selective circuits, but the electrician was looking at a 6-8 week wait on the generator. He had a 15K in storage & offered it at $500 more than the 7K, along with a whole house transfer switch. It runs on natural gas, so I don't have to worry about aging gas or diesel. It has run for as long as a week...

I'd never heard of that one. I was thinking it was the smooth, aromatic cigarette. Smoke 'em if you got 'em.
Or take a snooze in your Chesterfield brand sofa.

I was in an Air Force display museum in 1995. There was a guided missile of some kind that was for delivery by an airplane. It did not have the warhead on it but it had been autographed by the people who had built it. They used sharpies. One thing written on the body was “I’d fly ten thousand miles to smoke a camel.” The irony was lost on the Boy Scouts. Speaking of slogans was LSMFT. And away we go.
