Often cannot sign on

For the last ten days, I have not been able to sign on many times. The sign-on page does not come up. Wrote administrators several times but no response. Eventually, I can get on again. Anyone having this?

Never ever had an issue. Though I do shut the site down, I never log out.

The standard fix is to delete cookies, but I can't guarantee success.

Problems generally clear up after deleting cookies.
But, I don't know that I have ever signed off since joining in 2008.

Have had zero issues lately. It's probably your browser. I'd suggest clearing the cache as others have suggested. Failing that, a reboot.

I cleared the cookies. Never had this happening before though. No sign-on page coming up for a while and then it comes up again for a while and then, not again. I will see. Thank you!

Next time you sign on, click on 'remember me' and forget about it.

That does not keep you signed on. It keeps your user name and password.

But, if you don't log out, you can forget about it.

Yes. But I do.

No wonder some people are "on" all of the time!

I have to ask why you don't.. Seems strange to me to appear to be on always, for other people anyway. I know you do not sleep and ARE on all of the time but some people probably simply appear to be.

They do keep statistics and even charts about when people are on, not to mention records on the most users at one time ever and other interesting bits of data.

Yes, I am commonly on late, as you are, Pat, and could not get on a bunch of times but also had it happen in the day.

I log out after each session. If I forget, or simply spend too long on something else without activity, I am logged out by the server. While the forum is sometimes unresponsive (it's probably the least reliable online service that I use), I don't remember ever having a problem with bringing up the login screen. That suggests something strange in the configuration or behaviour of either the browser or security software on the user's computer.

There must be something strange with yours because Glenn and others say that they never log out and are still signed on but you are not.

Pat and I were having the same problem at the same time apparently so doubt it is our computers.

I don't log out either and have no issues with getting bumped, but then I usually power down my laptop when I'm done with it.

My PC never gets shut down, nor does any site I visit (except for ones that automatically log me out). Never have I had a negative consequence (short of replacing a power supply) from doing so.

Logging off should never really be necessary unless you are using someone else's or a public computer. Just close the browser tab or window, or even just go to another site after reading here at the Forum. The site software should not show you as "currently active" then - only when you are here or leave this page open on your browser.

I do usually close the tab with the forum on it when not using it.
