Old Idea reborn in a Escape

The door under the dinette seat on a 19ft is not a new idea. It was a standard item on a 16ft Oasis in 1964. Old ideas become new ideas.

Re: Old Idea reborn in a Escape

Its funny because I have a Uncle who has a smaller older airstream that he completely stripped the interior and custom made his own. One of the many genius things in his trailer is a door on the dinnette storage so when we ordered 19 ft I asked about it and was told they do this all the time .

It was something I had wanted that they did not do on my 19 (the 6th one made). It is great for shoe storage, and I think is installed on most 19's now.

Re: Old Idea reborn in a Escape

Jim, getting access to under bench seat storage has always been a pain in the back side. This is why against all advice I got a exterior access door put on the drivers side front to access the under bench storage from outside. Our dinette is always made into a bed so the door on the end of the passengers side and the outside door on the drivers side means we can get to both of these storage areas. I am very happy with the outcome.

I had thought to add an access on the driver side dinette bench too, but as I use that space to keep my BBQ stored, I could not really make much use of it. Our dinette has been made into a bed maybe twice in the last 4 years.

Re: Old Idea reborn in a Escape

Oue Daughter is ten so hopefully we have many years of our dinette being her bed and her camping with us but I guess they do grow up quickly. Its funny how many of our friends have comented on how we don't have use of our dinette and our response is that when she is too busy with her own life to come with us we will have many years of a dinette wishing that it was a bed for her. So we will enjoy having her with us as long as we can and to be honest I don't miss the dinette that much anyways, A small price to pay for every one to have a good nights sleep.

My kids are young adults (36-24-22), the oldest with an RV of their own, and the youngest when they join, usually prefer to sleep in a tent. Do enjoy them while young, as they certainly do grow up (older) fast. Real fast.
