The forum is not owned or run by ETI, guess the owner can accept ads from whoever they wish.
I don't see ads so I'd never know.

Ads are usually determined by your browsing history. So you've been caught looking at the sexy number next door, huh?

But not always. I keep getting ads for women's clothing. I'm single & my wife died 10 years ago. I've checked the box to let the ad know I'm not interested in the product, but they keep coming.

Advertising

I keep getting ads for tapered shirts. At first I thought it was nice but then I figured out they were tapered the wrong way.

The Home Depot website among others thinks I live in Metairie, Louisiana. Lowe's thinks I live in some suburb of Dallas, Texas. Maybe Houston, I'm not sure. Various weather apps think I live in Klamath Falls, Oregon. I'm not too worried about the surveillance state, yet.

I much prefer the Oliver ads than the constant array of political ads I’ve been subjected to on a this and other websites .
When I report the adds it seems the frequency of these ads just increase .

Ads are there because they work. I hate to think that ads have influenced my buying decisions over the years but I know they have.

C'mon Jon, I've seen you wandering around late at night, all dressed up kinda cute.

But I too have had ads for stuff I have never searched for or looked at come up too. Even when they are ads of sites I have browsed at, it kinda makes the company seem needy.

Numbers

When I’m searching for something and a request for my zip code comes
Up I just punch in any 5 numbers. Maybe that’s why I know how to get to Lowe’s in Nashville Tennessee? I don’t like ads. And I don’t like follow up emails from a car dealership telling me my service was incomplete because I can change my own cabin air filter. I don’t think the ads on the Escape forum influence me. I’m rarely in the market for a $65,000 trailer. Or something to make my hair grow back.

I had no idea there were ads on the forum until you all started talking about them. Then I realized that my "AdBlocker" had been sparing me from them. It tells me it's blocking 6 Ads right now. It's an easy and free add on to any browser. Highly recommended.

Hi Jim,
What a nice guy.
I had a commissioner once who had a commercial lawn service as an income source. He was a micro manager and when he was not around to check on his crews ,they screwed off. I had a pretty good idea of where his major accounts were. One by one he lost them because he couldn’t do his city job and manage his business. When I’d see a new lawn service on an old account of his, I’d call his landscape office and compliment them on the fine job they were doing. They’d admit they no longer had that account. He finally closed up shop and in two years we got our candidate in and that was about the last we heard of him. So I’d like to offer my services as your second in command in your ornery tricks administration. I think you know my resume’
P.S. if you get an overture from Lance trailers about your interest in becoming a dealer, you’ll know why.

I'd feel guilty using Ad Blocker since I put a single ad per page on my website. They don't make much, but just enough to pay for the ISP the hosts the site. Still, if I manage to make around $100.00 per year with an average of a 90 page views per day (a bit more when I'm traveling) I imagine it is a fair money maker for the folks that own our forum.

I have noticed how fast the ads discover I browsed to a website. If someone puts a link in a post here at the Escape Forum & I click it, by the time I get back to the forum the ads ofter reflect where I went.

Ads are served up by google and the specific ads you see are dependent on a number of things: your browsing history, page content or perhaps a keyword on a page and random luck of the draw. We all see different ads and the click revenue keeps the forum online. As noted earlier the forum isn't associated with any RV manufacturer

I am seeing potato chip ads which is entirely unfair as they are tempting and the single item on my "never eat this" list...

I use AdBlock and don't feel at all guilty. I don't mind reasonable ads, I understand their purpose, and I have accepted them in every form of advertising-supported media (radio, TV, newspapers, magazines, and now web sites); I only started blocking them when the ads on most sites (including this one) became excessive and intrusive. I was spending far more time (on an internet connection of limited speed and data allowance) waiting for stupid video ads to load than waiting for real content, and seeing more ad space than real content space on the page, and got fed up.

Some sites detect the ad blocker and won't show content until it is disabled. In that case I disable the blocker: if the result is a reasonable site I leave the blocker disabled for that site, but if the result is annoying crap I turn the blocker back on and just don't visit the site again.

Jon, I just went to your site, turned off adblockerplus and saw ads for body armor and self defense goods.
What do you know that I need to

I have not put any limits (other than no adult ads) on which ads appear on the site. The choice is made by the companies that post the ads.
