We're going to have a hard time getting above freezing in the Portland area over the next week and there's a 50% chance of snow nearly every day. Of course, that could change in the next 5 minutes, but you should really keep an eye on the weather all the way south on I-5. Safe travels, always

Yesterday we got 10 to 12” of snow . This morning it’s 15 below zero with 40 below windchills . Only bad part is my snowblower won’t start , maybe when it gets above zero . At least I got the roof shoveled yesterday when it was warm out

Emergency Info for SATURDAY, February 09, 2019 07:27.
ODOT: SW Oregon:
Drivers should expect winter driving conditions this weekend throughout Southern Oregon on I-5 and throughout Cascade mountain passes.
Travel is currently difficult on the I-5 corridor at Siskiyou Summit and the summits north of Grants Pass. Expect delays and possible temporary closures at these locations for the next several days. Crews are working 12 hour shifts and every piece of ODOT equipment that has a plow is working statewide.
Expect to drive on snow, even on the I-5 corridor. The goal is to keep the highways safe but passable- but there will be delays.
It bears repeating: if travel is necessary, expect delays and be prepared for a long trip.
Traveler tips include:
* Have chains and know how to use them
* Have warm clothes, gloves, blankets, etc.
* Drive to the conditions - that means slow down
* Increase following distance to maneuver and stop
* Expect a slow trip
Monitor cameras and chain conditions at Tripcheck in Oregon and QuickMap in California.

As hard as it has been to sit here in Texas knowing our 5.0TA was completed over a month ago, I'm sure glad we're not on the road trying to go get it this month!

We got 10" of that crud, which started around 1PM Friday. It's not snowing now but they're predicting lots more snow between now and Monday.
We're gonna remove as much snow as we can off the trailer later today.
Keep a close eye on the traffic reports and cameras. Safe driving!

I'm liking it. But then I am retired and have one of the best urban snow handling vehicles on the market in case I need to go anyplace.

Yup. Just heard from our good friend in Florence: he's stocking up on firewood, and expects he could be off-line (no internet, no power) for part of the time.

I probably should have said in my opinion but my vehicle is a 2019 Honda Ridgeline RTL AWD. Sorry for sidetracking the thread.

This just came in, it's mostly about northern California and travel on I-5:
Wind Advisory
Areas Affected: Central Siskiyou County
NWS Medford (Southwest Oregon and Northern California)
...WIND ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 1 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 10 PM PST TUESDAY...
* Winds...South 25 to 35 mph with gusts of 45 to 55 mph.
* Timing...Monday afternoon through Tuesday evening. Winds are expected to reach a peak early Monday evening, but then remain strong with the strongest winds to follow on Tuesday afternoon and evening.
* Locations include...Interstate 5 from Weed to Grenada, as well as the portions of Highway 97 from weed to near Grass Lake. This includes the towns of Weed, Grenada, Gazelle, and Montague. The strongest winds are expected in the southern Shasta Valley near Weed.
* Impacts...Driving is likely to become difficult to potentially hazardous, especially for high profile vehicles. Loose items will be blown about.
* View the hazard area in detail at https://www.wrh.noaa.gov/mfr/HAZARD
A Wind Advisory means that winds of 25 to 39 mph are expected with higher gusts possible. Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Use extra caution.

Wednesday, February 13
ODOT is barring all southbound I-5 commercial truck traffic at Ashland due to heavy snow in the corridor south to Redding. Truckers are advised to use an alternate route.
Chains or snow tires are required 24 miles north of Redding to 19 miles south of Dunsmuir.
10 miles out of Redding, Interstate-5 northbound at Fawndale has been shutdown due to snow.
Chains are required on all vehicles except 4-wheel-drive vehicles with snow tires on all 4 wheels:
- 3 miles south of Dunsmuir to 3 miles north of Weed at Black Butte Summit.
- 3 miles north to 8 miles north of Yreka at Anderson Grade.

In case anyone is wondering about the weather in Redding, CA, here's a photo my friend took this morning through her window.

We live in Bend and you must have accidentally looked at a wrong forecast. We canceled a trip out of here to visit my mom north of us as it is pretty awful and the extended forecast is snow - though not heavy in town.
