Oooold thread, but thought I'd give a recent update regarding Oregon weather. Hope no one is traveling northbound on I-5 on their way to pickup their trailer. At least for a few days...

There are times when I kinda miss my 1 ton 4x4 truck with a camper in the bed and chains on all four wheels. Did a 5 mph drive over Mt Hood in the dark with an ice storm in a string of semis. Camper was 2100 lbs and I could go anywhere albeit slowly.

If you're headed into Oregon, read the chain requirements first. Note that trailers with brakes require chains on one trailer axle.

(Edit: if you're from Calif. pay particular attention. While driving through OR, not in snow conditions, but during winter, we were queried about chains. We had chains in the vehicle for our tow vehicle, and also some cable chains for the trailer, so... were not cited.)

Hi Don & Theresa, thanks for posting that. We'll be picking up our 17B in Feb. and I just ordered chains for my TV, but it hadn't occurred to me I might need a set for the trailer. Guess I better order some. We'll be driving from Sumas to San Diego on our maiden voyage, mostly camping along the I-5 corridor. Any other winter tips would also be appreciated. As I understand it, ETI winterizes all trailers before delivery this time of year. I still need to figure out if that means the trailer has never had fluids in it, or if it comes with antifreeze in all the necessary pipes.

I-5 is also now open at Tejon Pass (Kern County); BUT
there is a high wind warning.
