Orientation Day

Will 8 AM ever get here? Today is our orientation and pick up of our new 19' Escape. I feel that the members of the Escape Forum are my support group. Only here can I say that the Forum is the last thing I look at in the evening and the 1st in the morning! (Not counting checking in throughout the day) I feel that I know so many of you from the 1+ year that I have been a member. My wife and I are now sitting in the Hampton, just feet (or meters) away from the ETI factory. Kind of feels like Christmas morning when I was a kid - when can I go down and unwrap the present So for now, we sit and wait. But @ 8 AM, a whole new phase of our lives begins. Yes Donna, I will post photos! Thanks for everyone's help in assisting us along the way.

Congratulations! I am sure you will enjoy your 19 as much as we do.

I can remember everything except how to deploy the awning. I would do a video next time. Would also have asked a few more questions re the inverter and surge protector.

Our orientation is on the 14th at 11:00, making it a long morning. After 7 plus months, I guess we can stand waiting a little longer.

I wee bit excited, are we?
Don't blame you.

As we were in a hurry, and it was the 11th hour finishing a few things on our trailer, I skipped our orientation. Besides, we were heading to a rally that Reace and Tammy would be at anyway. I only had one question for him, and that was where to find that tiny 120V switch on the water heater.

There was an orientation video made by Tammy. It showed, among other things, how to put up and take down the awning. I reviewed it numerous times in order to write down the steps, so I could put it up and not screw things up.

Congrats! The one thing we have miss is orientation day. That is except Reace and/or Tammy want to come over to Holland. ;-)

Happy Camping!

Kind regards,

I agree! Before heading to Chilliwack, we viewed Tammy's video numerous times; however, the whole orientation was a bit overwhelming and when we headed out on our own, we were looking at each other saying, "What did they say about this or that?" Perhaps there should be a list of "little things to pay attention to" -- like the by-pass valves on the water heater. We were in a panic that the valves were turned the wrong way and we would burn out the water heater before our first day ended. Who knew they weren't visible from the outside ...

A lot of info, like the by-pass valve, is in the trailer manual they provide.

Yep, but like most things, they can't include everything without making the manual 6" thick. Page 50 states "the water heater is reached through an access panel on the outside of the trailer". Then, on page 53, it states "the by-pass kit is installed near the water heater". If we had taken better notes (or had younger brains) we would have remembered one was accessed from the outside and one from the inside. As it was, the only thing that "stuck" was how to remove the rod from the water heater. Oh well, it certainly got our old brain cells working.

You need to watch the video Escape Training/Orientation Video. We made it in 2008 or 9 and it covers a lot about the trailers ( there have been some changes to the trailers, but it's still worth watching.
I've had to watch it several times to recall systems, and I shot and edited it.

Glenn,
Have you given any thought to making a new one? Or one making additions covering topics not included in the original?

The equipment I used all belonged to The Vancouver Sun ( camera, wireless microphones, tripod ) and so did the editing software.
I've been retired a year and a half and have forgotten pretty much everything I thought I knew.

That's the video we watched over and again before picking up the trailer so we knew what to expect. However, watching it after picking up the trailer was even more helpful since we could try things "hands on". Excellent video and a life-saver for reaffirming things and discovering other things that one misses the first time around. Good job!!!

Is there any way to capture that video so it can be viewed offline on a tablet, smartphone or PC? I tried a couple of things and was not successful.

I capture YouTube videos all the time for viewing offline and I don't use any special "software." There are two things to remember, Cache and TMP files. Here's a bit of info that may help. DON'T CLICK THE "DOWNLOAD" BUTTON: Saving YouTube videos for offline viewing | PCWorld

That is using special software... it's just free from KeepVid and run on their computers (those are certainly handy features - being free and them running it ).
