Questions about escape hatch

Now that we're about to have our own 5.0TA we find ourselves wondering about the escape hatch in the bedroom. When Bob & Judy graciously showed us their trailer we were looking at other stuff and paid no attention to it.

How does it open - with a crank like a regular vent, or a big lever handle like the side escape hatches? How far does it open? Can you open it a little bit for ventilation, and then it has some provision to open fully if you actually needed to use that as an emergency exit?

Just like the 14x14 vent... with a crank. But, there's a red emergency handle you can pull that releases the entire mechanism so you can fold the entire vent cover back on the roof and climb out... if you need to. Actually you can do that if all you need to do is inspect the caulking around the vent... or wax the area!

The only downside is you can't have it open more then a crack if it rains.

But a crack is all you need if you can also run the MaxxFan on exhaust. Because it's pulling fresh air down into the loft without creating a big ole breeze.

Does the 5.0 also have an emergency window exit?

Does your fan howl at all the mid settings? Mine does unless I either turn it way up or way down.

Mine had a high pitch whine when I first picked up the trailer. I heard from others that may happen. I cranked it up to HIGH and let it run for hours while I was outside, it helped a lot. Now it doesn't bother me at all. Of course I'm now 4 years older and my hearing isn't as good... and neither is my eyesight!
