Quilting
Any quilters out there? Do you take your equipment with you? If so, what do you take and how do you store it?
Or am I being overly ambitious?

My wife is an avid quilter. She even bought a long arm. We do not travel with quilting supplies other than what she purchases along the way if we find a nice quilt shop.

Hello Alys
I do not know anything about quilting. Well not much anyhow. But. At the rally at Pikes Peak State Park in Iowa in the spring of 2019, a nice lady with a new Scamp trailer parked next to us. She had a little problem plugging into the shore power. So I helped her and got her electricity working. She had purchased the Scamp without a sink and a stove and instead just a long counter. She had a special small sewing machine set up to work on quilt squares while she was camping. As she was getting ready to leave on Sunday morning she told me everything was working out well. So it certainly can be done and I predict your inquiry will “hook you up” with the camper quilters who I assure you “are out there”. If you can dream it you can do it. Best of luck in your new adventure.

I am a quilter but don’t take projects with me. If I were a hand quilter I might but for me trying to take my machine, iron, etc sounds like a huge headache. We do have one of my quilts on the bed and matching pillow covers for large lounging pillows. At Osoyoos a couple of years ago I met a spinner, which was both very cool and very impressive. I have to admit that knitting would be a lot handier for travel but I lack those skills entirely. Quilt barns, occasional quilt shops and museums yes definitely.

I am a quilter. I do not bring my machine but I do English Paper Piecing. I have finished three quilt tops. If we are not out hiking, biking or kayaking then I like to read or sew. We tend to move every 2 day so not worth bringing my machine. If we were staying put I might. Judy

I have taken my featherweight machine and another time, took my larger machine. However, I have more often just taken hand sewing, usually paper piecing. I have a small stacking container that fits into top cabinet above dinette, and don't take more than I will need. But on a recent 3 month trip, I got it out only once!

I quilt but I'm not an addict so no taking a machine. (I only quilt in spurts anyway.) But I made a couple of quilts for the trailer, one for the bed of heavy denim so it would stay put under the dogs, and one for sitting outside on a cool morning.

Norma usually brings her Featherweight and a project...her pressing station is on the kitchen counter.

I managed a city owned building called the Riverside Roundhouse for about 7 years in the eighties and early nineties. The Eastern Iowa heirloom quilters had their annual quilt show there each spring. When they outgrew the building the event was moved to the fairgrounds a couple miles away. We helped them hang the quilts from a maze of cables strung from the building’s steel framework and provided a worker to help in any way he could. That had a pretty big attendance. Here’s a website and the show they last had in 2019 before Covid. I always enjoyed working with them and checking on my worker to make sure everything was going well. They were nice people. There is camping right at the fairgrounds but it’s a little on the tires side. Otherwise there are state, county and corps of engineers parks within 20 miles. If you’re into quilt shows and they have it next fall you can contact me for camping recommendations and other neat stuff to do in Eastern Iowa
