FYI, I have a receiver hitch mount on the front of my GMC pickup. I can carry any bicycles (or other items) on the front of my vehicle: no interference during trailering, additional storage capacity behind the trailer. The front hitch receiver can also accommodate a removable winch or goal post rack that I've seen fifth wheel campers use for kayaks.

I used to do that with our E150 econline, til I had to drive 100s of miles after dark on very dark very rural roads, and the glare of the headlights off the bikes was blinding.

Thanks Dilly - good to know. I like the idea of having bikes out front. You know right away if anything is amiss.

One problem with the bikes out front is bugs, and cleaning it. As well, when driving in bad weather they are fully exposed to the elements as you can't use a cover needing airflow to the engine.

I really dont like cleaning bugs off my bikes either, and would rather not keep them on the front of the tow vehicle. My current solution is to carry my bikes on top of the FJ, and will sometimes use a bike bra to limit the numbers of bugs that I need to clean up. Although bikes on the roof works great for me and I sometimes carry up to 3 bikes on my roof, you do have to be careful not to go overboard.

When I lived down in Dade county bicycle theft was common.
We would go over by the port and you would see boats loaded to the gills with bicycles that probably were stolen. They would haul them to the islands.

I just made a hitch extension that holds 2 Honda generators, 2- 2 1/2 gallon gas cans and 2 bicycles. It is about a 18" to 20" extension from pin to pin

I’m looking at the Swagman Dispatch - do you need an extension to clear the spare tire on the 21? Thanks!

We have the Dispatch on the back of our 21 and it clears the spare tire just fine.

now color me VERY unhappy with my Swagman Escapee2... the locks on the vertical wheel clamps won't turn, yet I can manage to unclamp the wheels with a bit of wiggling, but both arms are frozen in place. its only about 1 year old. the inner bike managed to tear a whole in the tire cover with its pedal, which walked around under the vibration of driving.

wishing I'd gotten the 1Up.

We got this bad boy. Expensive but it has been ROCK SOLID for two years all over the country. It fit without any extensions or anything. https://www.1up-usa.com/product/2in-...ble-bike-rack/

I bet there is nobody out there who got the 1UP who wished they had of bought something else.

I too previously had a Swagman.

I thought long and hard about the 1UP but was not sure if it would work on bikes that had a saddle-back rack. Ended up with the swagman dispatch. I've been happy with it.
