Removing the corner padding
I need to run some wires from one of the bench seats in the rear of my 21 to the upper cabinet. Does the center button on the corner padding unscrew? Otherwise, how do I remove the padding? I thought I'd ask before I mess with it.
Thanks.

Hi: Mike Lewis... Pop the cover off and unscrew the base. I'm sure you'll find a Red sized Robertson screw lurking there!!! Alf

That would be a #2 Robertson. Geez, just like my wife asking for a screwdriver with a cross. One day I'll hand her a Reed and Prince so she'll start using the proper name. Actually I just gave her a purple (her favorite color) Qwikpic to spare her from having to ask me for a screwdriver of a certain type. She can pick out whatever bit she needs and call it anything she wants.

the round button is the same as the ones on the countertop splash, you can either twist and pull it out (pop out) or use a panel tool to pry it out if you dont want to scratch anything.. (I just use a flat screw driver) ....

Hi Alf
I heard that Reace hired an American worker without an extensive background check and the guy has been secretly installing Phillips screws that he brings in each day in his pocket.
He hides them with the caps and you don’t know it till you have to make a second trip to to the tool box. Probably just a rumor.

Mr. Robertson vs Mr. Phillips
Hi: Iowa Dave... Yellow, green, red, or black sized screws can be applied single handed. No second trip, looking for another screw, necessary. Alf

A word of warning regarding the old body style...
I ran a total of 16 14-gauge wires up to the front corner cabinet on our 19' from inside the dinette seat, and so needed to make a fairly sizable opening in the 1/2" plywood bench seat top, way in the front passenger side corner behind the corner trim piece. Was going to just blindly drill down into the bench seat area from above, but fortunately realized that if I did so in the very corner, i would be drilling a nice hole right through the lip of the body relief contour line in the shell. Ended up popping off the plywood piece and made a nice big saber saw cutout in it, with no damage to the trailer shell.

That is enough wire for a small house.

In risk of getting in trouble with all the old Far*s on this site. I threw out all my Robertson screws a decade ago …. same with my slotted or much worst Philips head screws. Exception is dry wall screws for ONLY drywall or wall board for you flat landers.
Give me torx drive screws (slang: star drive screws) or give me death along with my liberty. Come on Canada! …. its the twenty first century!

I knew you Americans have a hard time accepting that the best screw head design ever, the Robertson, was designed by a Canadian, but really.......
And as far as drywall screws go, I use them for so much more than just drywall. Too bad that they don't come in Robertson heads also.

If you're going to throw out all your Robertson head fasteners, I'll take them.

And while torx heads are great, they are just not readily available.

Hi: Jim Bennett... Had to buy a torx driver to replace my rectangular head light on a car. The tip promptly snapped off in the screw head. Took the car into the garage, and after prizing the bulb out, from behind the trim the mechanic said " If it fails again...trade the car"!!! Alf
