oh indeed, when I can find a good local brewery, I'm there! Here in Santa Cruz we're blessed by dozens of brewpubs and microbrewery taprooms, of which at least 5-6 make excellent beer (and others make beers that I know some folks love, they just aren't my thing).

Nice lineup!

Jim, we pick up our new 19' late May, and then are headed to the Banff - Jasper area. What are the good breweries along the way? I see there is a small brewery in the town of Banff.

Banff Ave Brewing has some good selections, and has a sister brewery in Jasper. That is the only one I know of in that area other than the Canmore Brewing Company in Canmore.

Now Calgary has quite a few good ones. A recent one we went to was Good Mood. This guy with an Eastern European accent came to our table of four who had set up to do a tour. He got us to choose 6 beers to try, and went on to explain them while we tasted. Lots of great info. Only after a while did we learn he was the brewer, the owner, and he took us on a great tour of the facilities, the best I had ever been on in a brewery, and took the time to explain the whole process as well as a lot of great side facts. He also answered lots of our questions. Good beers, great tour.

One interesting thing I learned on this tour was that they recommend that pubs they supply their Hefeweizen to store the cases upside down, so that when they break the seal and pour the beer that the unfiltered yeast gets well mixed in to give it that great cloudy appearance and be included in the taste. I love Hefe's, well actually most beers brewed well.

I have been to Banff Ave Brewing quite a few times, my son lives a half block away so it is a popular choice for us to go there for a few brews. The beers are good, and the pub food is ok also.
