RVLOCK installed on 2017 21' Escape

Yesterday, I successfully installed the RVLOCK V4.0 - W/ INTEGRATED KEYPAD On our 2017 21' Escape.





I did, however, struggle to get the outside half to go in without having to drill out two small notches. They are completely covered up though.



I also had to cut a small notch on the inside of the door so that the outside half would go in properly.



Here is the finished results. The most important thing...Dora is happy!

Fred, Seems simple. What did you use to do the notching? I bought one in December but won't have the trailer until the rally and would like to know if I need more then the screwdriver that the instructions say I need. Thanks for posting.

Nice to see the amount of insulation in the new style doors, my 2012 Escape had none.

Short answer, no. The lock requires a flat surface. The classic door isn't flat. Pretty close, but there's a raised section immediately to the right of the cutout. That interferes.

Fred, looks nice and appears to work nicely. What type of batteries does it used? Does it need to be disassembled to change them?

Batteries don't do well when frozen. Is it going to be a concern with this door lockset during winter storage.. or during winter travel? Oh my. Inquiring minds want to know.

You could always fall back on that old fashioned method of using a key, no?

I installed the rvlock on my trailer - it didn't require any drilling or modification. It just went right in. I guess that is what makes our trailers unique - they are all a little different from each other.

Of course. I wouldn't expect to be locked out or locked in. Just thinking that buying batteries for the lock every spring is a maintenance issue and to plan ahead.

I had to use lithium batteries in my fridge temp sensor because regular batteries fail below freezing. Maybe using lithium batteries in the lock would be a good idea if you expect cold weather.

Of course, Texas is different. It's going to be 82 deg today. Can't wait for it to warm up - these winters are killing me!

You certainly have a twisted sense of what is comfortable. Those temps are about the hottest I would care to experience, and only then when on a beach with a mojito in hand.

Tom, I agree. I use lithiums in the outdoor sensor for our weather station. Even in far below 0F in Wisconsin winters they have never stopped sending their signal and they last far longer than alkaline in cold weather.

while the lock is nice ..what keeps the thief from just putting a crowbar in the door jam and prying back the door at the lock?..just thinking thieves do it on houses and the rv door jam sure doesn't look as strong as a house door jam...for that matter the door looks so cheap they could probably just put the crowbar under the edge of lock and pry it thru the door.

It's all what your used to. When you see shiny spots on the asphalt, you think black ice - when I see shiny spots, the asphalt has melted.

No kidding. When we were kids, we had to use solvent to get the tar off our shoes from the melted roadways in the summer.
