Adequate for general listening. I switched out the radio for one with better FM sensitivity since I like to listen to NPR stations when I'm in the middle of nowhere. If you are an "audiophile" you probably will want to change out the speakers, particularly the front ones...

I am sure the Escape system is just fine at $430 plus tax Canadian.

However I wanted something a little different that I had proven to work for a few years.

The links to purchase in the article don’t seem to work any more, so if you put “Kinder MA 120” into Aliexpress you will find multiple sellers offering the same unit. Careful on the price and shipping as it varies Considerably. You should be able to purchase one for around $22 with free shipping.

Here is a link to the article.

thx Jon, not exactly a audiophile, but like you do like my NPR. I think everything is wide open for a self install with better components. Again i enjoy your posts. I am an hour south of I80 in Iowa if you need a place to plug in. Kind Regards

As a fellow NPR junkie, I highly recommend Tivoli audio units, the FM reception is amazing and the sound is great, both for music and for vocals. I find that a lot of the factory installed systems are terrible for talk radio.

They have different models but even their cheap (relatively) models are awesome:

My plan is to skip the factory install and rely on my trusty Tivoli. But, it is obviously not installed into the cabinetry, so not sure if that's a deal breaker for you...

An iPhone with Bluetooth to Bluetooth UE ( Ultimate Ears ) portable speaker is compact and mobile.

I also had Sirius XM radio for CBC, NPR, and about ten country songs in rotation. Figure I can make my own country playlist and put it on a loop. The boombox unit died so I cancelled. I'm getting dirt cheap offers, begging me to come back.

Here are the speakers Escape installs:

Magnadyne LS3CMW 3 Ceiling Mount Satellite Speaker
https://magnadyne.com/magnadyne-ls3c...llite-speaker/

Magnadyne LS675C 6.5 2-Way Speaker
https://magnadyne.com/magnadyne-ls67...2-way-speaker/

Both sets of speakers are very low quality - sounds like a 70's dash car speaker. I put up with them for a while and then changed them out for two Rockford Fosgate R14X2 and two Pioneer TS-A652F 6-1/2" 3 Ways. Still not audiophile quality but to my old ears, they sound fine.

In hindsight, I shouldn't have ordered the Escape sound option and installed a system myself.

ps. The Boss radio is next on the hit list. The remote is IR and you have to be directly in front of the radio for it to work.

Exactly...or get a good portable system that can follow you in the trailer, plus outside and at home.
My system is not a power house as do not want to interfere with the tranquility of my fellow surrounding campers.

My trailer came pre-wired for stereo, but none was installed. So last year I hung a pair of Polk Audio Atrium 4 outdoor speakers beneath the rear cabinet so that the speakers wouldn't take up cabinet space. I don't have a U-shaped dinette so there is no chance of someone banging their head on a speaker. I bought a single-DIN Kenwood stereo and enclosure to power them.

The speakers sound nice but I don't care for the radio or its location above the short cabinet near the bed. In particular Kenwood's cellphone app is crummy. So I'm going to replace it with a double-DIN Pioneer unit and enclosure and put it near the speakers at the rear of the trailer.

New mast

I replaced the little 6 inch stubby antenna Escape provided with on a bit over a foot long and it greatly helped reception. Just unscrewed the old one and screwed on the new one from the outside. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I installed the non CD version of the Sony MEX-N5300BT, which has an FM sensitivity of 7dBf, the best I've been able to find. I combined that with a Shakespeare FM antenna.

The combination is about as good as things can get. I pick up stations better than with the truck, and, in fact, have found that I'm picking up stations that are blanked by the trailer electronics - If I shut off the converter & solar controller I get more stations. I've tried a number of different filters to eliminate the RFI, but nothing works as well as shutting the noise sources down.

ETI just drilled a hole in the vertical side of my 21 behind an upper cabinet over the nightstand, mounted the antenna there (with some gaskets.) Never had a leak issue.

That's an interesting antenna, Jon. I'd try one out if I had room for another antenna.

I recently purchased a Bose Mini Soundlink for $150 for our weekend camping adventures in the back of our 2014 Honda Pilot.

This tiny link speaker has incredible quality sound, is very portable and holds a charge for 12 hours. We play music or stream radio via Bluetooth from our phones.

An amazing great sounding piece.
