Bruce,

I like this idea a lot!! You don't lose much table space, but access improves dramatically. I doubt it would cause problems with the bed, but if it did, a couple of 1/4" plywood triangles should fix it. You could store them behind a seat. This is something ETI might be willing to do because it would fit their regular template. Cut the front corners, rotate 180, cut again. It's not a manual job like the round table.

I'll run it by DW, if she likes it, I'll see if ETI will do it.

BTW We're going with a Lagun pedestal.

Rich

To do this I know there has to be some compromises. I really like of the ideas of cutting the table down and adding a "filler board" to allow the bed to still be used.

COMMENTS & OPINIONS would be appreciated.
I would think that would work just fine. This small gap left would be easily bridge by the cushions without a problem. I went the opposite way building my table the other day, and just put a small one inch radius on all four corners. I do have the Springfield pedestal and Dicor for way slide so can get out of the way with no problem.

Hey Bruce,

I just remembered that in my Bigfoot 5er, I'd usually put the table down with the triangle cutouts in. I figured there was better cushion support that way that when they're out. It worked fine either way.

The wife says, "Like it!!!!" I'll ask if ETI will do it. I hate to use your idea before you can, but you wouldn't have put it here if you didn't want to share it.

Thanks!

Rich

Thanks for the response. I was thinking that too... however the dicor 4 way slide is harder to find than an unicorn. So with the four cut out corners, the ETI 2 way slide, and the rotating of the Springfield pedestal... in "normal" the table will slide left-right...rotate table 90 degrees and bingo.... the table can now slide front-back

We like the size of the stock table (2015 5.0 TA, u-shape dinette). Had the Springfield pedestal installed at orientation and liked the easy conversion to bed. We always lower it for travel to protect it. It was awkward to use with the side to side slide and at last year's Osoyoos Rally Carl (C&G in Fla) showed us his setup. He turned the slides to move fore-aft. We made that change with it and are able to slide the top within a couple of inches of the rear cushions and it is now easy for both of us to sit down and seat four when the table top Is pushed toward the front.
BTW, we are current in Michigan on our way to Osoyoos.

Bruce,

I saw this review on YouTube and loved it.
https://youtu.be/lOZsFMOU8Pg

I showed it to Dear Wife and she loved it. We like these things:

1. The floor under the table is completely open

2. We can easily swing the table out of the way

3. We can quickly remove the table and pedestal leaving only a small mounting plate

I also like the folding table in the review, but didn't want to spend the money. Your hexagonal table idea should work perfectly!

There is an active thread on it right now. Mark's may the first Lagun installed in an Escape, but it's definitely NOT the last.

Excellent... thanks so much. I will definitely check it out...

Also ... I will see if DW wants to try out the octagon table. I'm likin' it. It appears to have more pros than cons.

BONUS... it will be a pseudo 4 way slide even with the stock ETI slider. Just rotate table 90 degrees and the table will slide front to back. This however becomes rather unnecessary with the Lagun pedestal.

So much to think about... head gonna explode !

Bruce,

You have no idea... just wait until you get your first build sheet! And then you have months to obsess about it.

I just got word that I have to submit my build sheet in two weeks. ETI reserves two weeks to review it and make sure they can build it. I've been getting approval (or not) all along so I thought I had four weeks left.

Rich

let us know if ETI will do the cuts to the table on the back side ( like the front) - that looks like a great solution.

On our build sheet we asked for a slightly modified version of this.
We requested that ETI cut their standard u -shaped dinette table into TWO pieces: one 18" and one 12" (They charged us $100 to make this cut and to finish each table piece) We are bringing along a Springfield pedestal and at orientation will have them attach the 18" tabletop piece to that. We also ordered two extra cushions made for the tabletops ($150 for the 18" one and $100 for the 12" one.) The 12" piece of the tabletop, we will use as a filler board. We plan on storing it and it's cushion at home or bringing it along in the truck if we plan on having grandchildren along. The 18" cushion, when using the table as a table, and not a lounge, can become a nice cushioned headboard for our bed.

Looks awesome... we are in a similar position. We want it all... bed, lounge and large table. We aren't sure what direction we are going yet. However it will be similar to you folks. Super thanks for sharing.

That's not ours:-) Those are pictures from Follow Toto's blog that we gave to ETI for a frame of reference. Instead of the wood filler board will be for us -the other half of our table.
We won't be able to try ours out until August when we pick up our 21

UPDATE Y'ALL: ETI will cut the table as requested "no charge". They also said the additional cuts will not effect the ability to use the "new" table top for the bed platform.... Lovin' ETI
