Tail Light Issues

We picked up our new 17B last Thursday and discovered to our embarrassment, while parked among the big rigs on the ferry heading home, that our 4 tail lights were all blinking.
Seems that, when first plugged into the Land Rover LR3 tow vehicle, all is fine. As soon as I insert the ignition key the tail lights start their blinking routine and remain blinking, even when the key is removed. The only cure is to unplug the trailer from the LR3.
Any ideas?

I've wondered if LED lights combined with modern electronic ridden vehicles aren't a little more sensitive to issues than older vehicles with incandescent lights.

I had an issue picking up my trailer right at ETI. Checked the trailer lights and there were issues. They put their tester on the trailer and all was well.

Drove to the Ford dealer faking brake lights by turning my headlights off and on. Turned out to be a special fuse for trailer lights, who knew. Since then they've worked flawlessly.

I guess the moral of the story is don't take anything for granted even with a new vehicle and a new trailer. Gremlins happen.

Did you check to see if the tow vehicle hazards are on? Sorry, but I can’t think of anything else.

If you do not find a quick resolution to this issue you may want to look at purchasing one of these connector/adapters from eTrailer.

Many European vehicles employ sophisticated electrical mechanisms to help detect and warn drivers of light-out situations. This can sometimes interfere with proper trailer light operation. We found one of these adapters resolved an issue with our Cayenne not properly connecting to the Tekonsha RF brake controller. Might apply to your situation as well. Good luck!

You may get your answer on an LR 3 forum. Looks like there are at least 3 of them.

This would be my guess as well. The LED’s don’t have enough draw and the system sensor thinks it is a lamp issue.
