Tehachapi SR 58 mudslides

Hello all.

Saw the news about the mudslides along State Route 58.
It is our short cut to the desert via Bakersfield.

We have one 17 b owner in the area.Thane Lundberg.

Hope that you are safe and sound Thane and no damage to life or property.Suppose to be 192 vehicles stranded along SR 58 some in five feet of mud.It will take at least two days to get things moving according to the media.

Take care
Allan

Thanks for the concern, we are all fine. My vanpool missed the flash floods by 30 minutes or so and after two days there are still no roads down the east side of the mountain. Only Tehachapi residents are allowed up the west side from Bakersfield.
The roads are covered with 4 or more feet of mud and rocks, and abandoned cars and semi trucks. It is going to be a muddy winter! They might have the road open by Monday but i wouldn't be surprised if they don't. The gas stations are running out of gas, but we have no where to go anyway! A lot of folks were without power for over a day and hundreds of travelers were stranded in town.
My commute to work is going to be really messed up for weeks!

Thane,
Good to hear you're OK.
We have good friends who live on the mountain side west of the Woodford Rd. They told us a bunch of their family and friends are stuck in Bakersfield, which has now has no available motel space anywhere, and parking lots near highways are full. Everyone's just making do.
On the coast we're dry as a bone. Just 40 miles from us is the part of I-5 that got slammed by the storm.

Thane, I'm glad everyone is OK.

For me this brought back a lot of memories. I have traveled SR 58 many times between Lemoore NAS and Fresno to Missouri and back.

Glad you are ok. We were camping at Carpinteria State Park when the mudslides hit and the 101 was jammed and nearly stopped from the cars and big rigs trying to by-pass SR-58 and I-5. It was better yesterday (Saturday) when we left for San Diego. Are those roads opened yet?
