Since I've never ever had a bearing fail, but I know they can, I hedge my bets by carrying one packed, ready to go bearing.

That'd be pure torture for me. I finished a boat that was already launched. It was only about 6 miles away. What a nuisance, plan what you're going to do, take tools and materials and hope that you can still do the work because of the one thing that you inevitably forgot.
