Towel bars

i'm considering leaving my 17 CasitaSD for a 19 foot escape. I have found that the hardwood doors in the Casita lend themselves to attaching all kinds of hooks, Mirrors, grab bars and towel bars. If I recall the doors and walls in the escape appear to be hollow. How do people attached towel bars coat hooks and various other items?

Welcome, an Escape 19 is a great trailer.

I put a bar of hooks along the outside of the bathroom door, no reinforcing required. You can use command hooks, or suction cup hooks inside.

We got some of the walls reinforced that we hung a lot of hooks from, also used Command hooks and over the cabinet/bathroom door towel bars. Also have a couple suction hooks from Lee Valley that work great for temporary exterior use.

We found that over-the-door hooks work well for us. We use the outside rack for towels and the inside hooks for wash cloths and towel while one of us is showering. (Note the sheet of acrylic we put up with command hooks right beside the bathroom door for stickers of the parks we have visited with the trailer.)

We also put up a three-prong rack for dish towels right behind the stove. We didn't get walls reinforced but found that we can use the wood edges of the panels to attach things. We tried an over-the-door hook for dish towels but it was more in the way than we liked so we went to the 3-prong rack.

I was able to screw these two coat hanger plates securely on my bathroom walls with no trouble. In the picture at left there was a standard cross support in there, up high. Just had to tap around to find it. For the right pix I screwed down from inside the cabinet.

If you're looking for the framing in an Escape wall, get a small magnet (rare earth/neodymium type) and swipe it around on the wall. It will find the colored staples used to hold the pretty stuff to the framing (also works fine thru fiberglass.)

Yes, hollow doors and walls, is nice, much lighter than solid MDF like some others use.

I fabricated towel bars for the bathroom door. There's solid wood at the edges which is why mine have the foot to the outside edge. Also, the towel bar for the kitchen also goes to solid wood. It's there, you just have to find where it is first.

One minor point. I don't recall a single hardwood door in the Casita. The cabinet doors are engineered material with a printed wood veneer, no? The partitions/wall supports are made of the same. The Escape cabinet doors are oak - a hardwood.

You are correct I believe it's referred to as MDX. But it is very solid and things can be screwed into it quite easily. And yes it is heavy.

Charlie, our used 17 sold recently in hours. The few that have been listed recently have had similar results. If you know where a 2012 19 is for sale you best call right now if you want a chance at it. Hope it comes through for you, it is a good direction.

As a result of other forum members input, we had three Umbra hooks installed.

I haven't found many of my hooks to be all that useful.
I put one large one on the outside of the shower/toilet, next to the door. Last trip, my wife used it to hang sun dresses, which had to be pushed out of the way in order to close the bath door. Usually used for wet jackets.
I put another on the side of the fridge wall, passenger side, next to the head of our bed. Thought I'd hang my clothes on it when crawling into bed, but they hang down far enough that I get tangled up while flailing about in my sleep.
There is another at the other end, driver side, where my wife sits to read. It is unused because anything hanging there is irritating.
Have two hooks at the entrance, on the wardrobe wall, that are handy for hanging binoculars, camera and a jacket or two. Opposite, on the fridge wall is one that is used to hang the broom, which is out of the way.
Have a couple inside the shower. One for the squeegee and one unused - it was supposed to be for a facecloth, but nobody uses that sink.
There is also a hook to the right of the stove on outside bath wall. It holds oven mitts.
I have suction hooks for the outside shower towels.

My advice is try the removeable 3M Command hooks first. Establish where you need and want hooks and if you must, replace them with something permanent later.
