There is a forum member that rebuilds and sells damaged Escapes. He purchases them from insurance companies, repairs the unit and sells them, reasonably cheap, maybe 25% less than used.

I run a chain thru the tank handles and below. Probably causes me more trouble than it would a thief.

My trailer is insured ACV, actual cash value stated as $33k. I believe the agent said I could do this for the first 5 years. The amount was determined by what I paid for it. The trailer is attached to my auto insurance and cost around $200.

I'm with Farmers(big surprise). My agent had never heard of an Escape. He said "not to worry, I'll take care of you".
The check is in the mail too. Yeah, right!

Here's a picture, using existing safety chains and a padlock.

I was trying to be humorous. I do trust my agent. Been with the same agency since my grandfathers time.

OK - withdrawing my recommendation for the Master Lock. I found a video demonstrating the lock easily defeated with just a crowbar: https://ftknoxlocks.godaddysites.com...tor-lock-fails.

You're welcomed.
Plus Dave just confirmed that the stud that holds the spare is the same size.
The five lock kit from McGard will do the job.
Hopefully, and with any kind of luck, all tires will be just where we want them when they are needed.

I have mentioed this on another security thread. A great source of lock dependabilty information is the YouTube channel: "lockpickinglawyer". Another very good info source is "bosnianbill"

No. I have even taken them off of my van and car (replacing them with standard nuts) to reduce the hassle of dealing with them and the risk of losing the key.
If the intention is to make a wheel "boot" lock effective by preventing the removal of the wheel complete with lock, there are versions which cover the wheel nuts.

1/2"-20 is the nearly universal thread for wheel studs in this capacity range of trailer axles, including all Escapes. That's 1/2" diameter (the threads, not the hex of the nut), 20 threads per inch (but that's the only common 1/2" wheel stud/nut thread anyway). There is no thread in the wheels, of course; they have conical seats for the nuts.

I guess this is why having multiple levels of security along with a good insurance policy is probably the best advice. Nothing is fool proof. At least this is what I have surmised from this little thread. Thanks everybody.

That is the intent since I already own the 'boot' style that simply clamps around the tire.Actually, the easy way to defeat my lock is with a battery powered grinder and metal cutting wheel. Just cut through it and drive off. Why leave behind a tire that could be traded for a little pot?
By choice, often we are camped by ourselves in the middle of nowhere making us especially easy targets for the low-life of the world.
My hope is to throw enough obstacles in their way to encourage them to look for a softer target. I know; what a naive optimist.
Fear of the low-life will not a force us to abandon things we enjoy. As soon as decent folks do that, the low-life wins.

I was imprecise. What I meant was a lock similar to this. https://www.amazon.com/Hurbo-Adjusta...056&hvpos=1o18 not a simple lock for a lug. Have you seen evidence that this type of lock can be defeated short of a power tool? I believe as others have stated, that any lock can be defeated with enough time and technology.
