Upgrading from a 17B to a 19...help me pull the trigger

Don't let that stop you. Buy a classic 19 and replace the furnace. The older Atwood Hydroflame Everstar furnaces are the same exact size in 12,000, 16,000 and 18,000 BTU/HR input models. A bit harder to come by since being discontinued, but not impossible to find.

Thanks for the suggestions and feedback. If it was between the Escape 21 and 25AS I would have gone for the AS. I feel like anything bigger than the 19 is just too big for our needs right now. The Escape 19 checks off all the boxes. The only thing I don't like about the Escape 19 is the stripper pole.

Having gone from a 19 without a pole to a 21 with a pole and back to a 19 with a pole I can say that the pole serves several functions, it adds stability to the upper cabinets, it gives one a support entering/exiting, and it allows some use for hanging. It is not a useless addition but very functional. Once you try it you will not look back.

I have a stripper pole in Ten Forward too. Frankly I'm so used to it, I don't even see it anymore. I suppose if I really didn't like it, I could change it to something else more aesthetically pleasing. Lots of Scamp owners have changed those factory Fugly twisty rods to "better." But support of some sort is needed.

I fear the stripper pole would get in the way of my meal prep activities--and you do not want to get in the way of my meal prep activities!

Yea I feel like it is going to get in the way of meal prep but I understand it is there for a reason. I spoke to ETI about it. I told them I was willing to pay whatever was needed to reinforce the wall but that didn't work. We'll get used to it. Maybe it will come in handy on a rainy day.

One other thing that helped me make my decision to go for the Escape 19 over the 25AS is a result of our past experiences with our 17B. I felt like the 17B was perfect for our needs. It is just my wife, dog and me. I just wish we had a real bed, a larger eating area and more counter space, and that it had a little more width inside. The 19 has all of this. Also in the past I found ourselves inside the 17B a lot because I couldn't stand the bugs at night in certain locations. I have decided that I don't need much more interior space I need a pop up screened in canopy. I think this addition to our travels will be perfect. I just need to find one small enough to suit our needs and that is quick and easy to put up.

You might want to put a 12v on the outside. A little fan running, and the bugs are off to another "quiet" place.

Brilliant. I don't know why I didn't think of this considering I have a giant fan in my backyard for the same reason.

I have a question now. If I have the inverter with the transfer switch do I still need a separate 12V outlet outside if I am boondocking or can I use the 120V outlet when not hooked up to shore power? We have never boondocked yet.

What is the difference between the standard inverter and one with transfer switch all outlets?

Yes you can.

The standard on has only one dedicated 120V outlet, whereas the transfer switch energizes all outlets.

I thought I posted this, but I don't see it so forgive me if it appears twice. What is the pole? We don't seem to have one. I'm guessing that's because we switched the position of the sink and the stove. Also, we have the Clam and it has made a huge difference for Terry -- he can eat outside in peace. The Clam is roomy and sturdy and easy to set up BUT when collapsed it is 6 feet long and pretty wide around and 30 or 35 pounds. We didn't set it up unless we were in a place for several days.

One more thing -- I'm glad the fan works for some but it didn't make much of a difference for us when the mosquitoes were biting.

I believe the 21's first had the pole and when the 2nd G started, both the 19 and 21 models incorporated them. Also we got the smaller clam model, easier to handle by one.
