Know this very well. Been there, done that. And went back into Canada for a big trip through Canada! The post said that their Escape is on its way to Florida on a trailer. I took it that ETI was shipping it home for them even though they went there for orientation.

Actually, I believe that US customers did take their trailers across the border long ago but that gave ETI problems, so ETI does it now.

I must have missed the part about shipping to Florida (and still don't see it). I read it to mean delivery over the border.

Perhaps the main reason for ETI exporting is so U.S. customers wouldn't have to pay the significant taxes upfront and then apply for a refund later.

Hello Everyone,

As outlined in the FAQ on the Escape Forum. The trailers are Exported rather than being Imported. In 2007, the Canada Revenue Agency told us that we could have the trailer Imported by the customer into the US as long as we maintained proof of exportation. This change in process was a result of a change with the NAFTA.

However, after a recent review the Canada Revenue Agency has now asked that we being Exporting the trailers across the border into Sumas, WA. Rather than the customer having the 7501 stamped by the Customs Officer. We now have the Customs Officer stamp the 7501 and provide the customer with a certified copy.

I think the problem for ETI was that they had to track down the customer and get them to send a copy of the stamped 7501 to ETI to submit to Revenue Canada. Royal pain.

I don't know when Escape started doing the importing, but in April, 2011, I imported my trailer, didn't have to pay any taxes (at least to Canada; New York is a different matter!) I did get a 7501 form prefilled by Escape signed & stamped after a check of the trailer VIN at the border. Don't remember if it was the Canadian or US customs, but in any case it was a smooth 10 minute operation.

Just saw an Escape #15 leaving ETI, I assume it was a repair as they are no longer making them?

I'm staying away from that Canadian beer, too potent. Besides, I have been getting up at 4:30 am as I'm still on east coast time. In addition tomorrow I have be bright and bushy tailed alert at Escape by 7:45 am to cross the border and return with Prairie Schooner.

Exactly. We picked up the 5er in July 2011, and spent a month touring British Columbia. We crossed back over at Glacier NP. Import took about 30 minutes. Would have been faster, but they all wanted to go out and "inspect" it. About a month later I got a message from Tammy to please send her the 7501. I'm guessing there are some less organised than me who would not be able to find it at that point.
