Another project well done

Rounded corners more time? So what, they're very much worth the effort. This container will be sweet.

Dinette bench seat drawer

Having seen and been inspired by another 19 footer and his drawer, I shamelessly copied the idea. I was going to make a wood drawer, but noticed I had a tub in the garage, probably from an old chest freezer, that I stored some bike gear in. This tub was a very good fit, so I attached 22" ball bearing drawer slides and fabbed some cedar wood stand-offs. This allows dual access to stuff under the bench, which makes my life easier as my spouse piles pillows, purses and other stuff on the bench cushions and makes access to the storage space a hassle.

Shout out of thanks to Gary, aka package man for his inspiration.

Used to be able to get an adhesive sunbrella type of tape for my rollerfurling Genoa on my boat.
May have to look into this.

Something like this.

Camco 5" x 15' Awning Repair Tape - Repairs Rips and Punctures in Your RV or Camper's Awning | Contains UV Inhibitors | Use for Boat Sails, Canvas, Pool Covers & More - (42623)

Stove Vent exterior cover replacement

I inherited a functional but wonky vent as the flapper hinge pins were broken off. I replaced it with a sleeker Thetford unit for $30.

Escape uses a tough caulk/sealant, and lots of it, so removal of the old one was a chore. A Dremel with an abrasive wheel was used to cut through a portion and pliers used to pull off sections of the old vent cover.

The new vent had to be cut down 1" as it was too tall to fit flush to the body. A table saw did this work. An +1/8th inch of the opening was removed as the new vent was just a bit larger in height.

I think Escape is currently using this newer vent style.

I was impressed with the thickness of the fiberglass in this area. It needs to be load supporting, and is a bit over 5mm (.200") thick, and a .030" gel coat thickness, both substantial layers.

Old screw holes did not match at all, so new ones were drilled. Butyl tape was used for sealing the vent cover to the trailer body. All is well again.

A shroud cover snaps in place over the vent for a sleek, rounded appearance. The vent can be snapped closed for travel or when in storage.

Nicely done, I did the same mod on my 19. Worth doing because I think that it allows for more exhaust to flow. A lot of these mods get done because of broken plastic.

I found the latching/unlatching of the new style a bit tricky until I used it a few times. The first times I used it I thought that I was going to snap the latches. Hopefully they don't get brittle over time and break off like the old style ones do.

Thanks, Ron

I did this in part based on your previous posting and your brand recommendation. My stove vent is a lot different than your previous one. No increase in exhaust size with mine.

I plopped a dollop of silicone grease on the vent snaps to make them easier to use. That helped.

C'mon - it's not even close to that time yet. There's a lot of camping to be done before the first freeze... and after!

I wish. You're west of me. I live in east county, off the gorge. It's going to be down to 32 on Saturday and 28 on Sunday. It's was a gorgeous day to pull the anode on the water heater. Fairly warm and NO WIND. That's a good thing. I've camped 3-4 times in January with Ten Forward winterized. It IS possible. Maybe in 2021, I'll do just that.

I've never seen much of the chore in it

I always drain hot water heater and fresh water after any outing. Winterizing then means blowing out thoroughly the water lines and a dash into the traps. Toilet valve is most fragile to freezing. No big deal. But another thing to do, for sure.

The last couple weeks have been keeping my new lithium battery connected to a 100W solar panel and with the new MPPT controller, full sun every day, get a steady, reliable 13.6w reading and, as high as 14.3W, by mid day, on it. Now, since we aren’t going anyplace with it in the foreseeable future, will disconnect the solar and connect shore power to the trailer. Then, turn on a few appliances, like the heater, the fridge, the inverter.

Let it all be for a few days, like that. Curious to see if the lithium battery drops down in voltage to any significant degree. Guessing it should. But will that matter? Have not upgraded the WFCO unit from its old factory install to the lithium-friendly charger, so one question is will the thing do any significant charging of the lithium at all.

If not, then will probably buy the WFCO Arterra WF-8955-MBA 8900 Series Main Board Assembly For Power Converter.

It'll be interesting to see how your 100w panel does over time. Nice to have a lithium battery, I'm envious.

Yah, time to pack up the trailer, I guess we're also not going anywhere else anytime soon. I was going to make one last fishing trip but it's getting colder and the nights are dark much sooner and it'll be freezing overnight before too long.

Still hoping that this Covid mess will be over enough to let us head for Q'site in Feb. but I'm not holding my breath.

I hope one day next year to bring my fishing pole and trailer up to your neck of the woods and get you to teach me how to fish.

the latches on my rock guard were severely rusted. my son soaked them in something (vinegar? baking soda? both? ) and they came almost "clean". painted them w spray paint, a couple coats. looks much better!

Amazing how it has gone from nice sunny boating and camping weather two weeks ago to possible snow and freezing temperatures being the high this weekend.

Did the winterizing as well with a reminder to check the pick up tube is free of water...whichever method you use.
