As I understand it they used to be welded on so it is not an issue for everyone. I cleaned the rust up on the frame and the mount and painted with some kind of rubbery rust converter product in a can. Hopefully this will help stop what looked like could become a future disaster.
Saw this post and thought I'd note the fix I used to prevent metal on metal of propane tank base ring to frame platform. Slit some 1/4" rubber fuel hose and use it to run the perimeter of the tank base edge. It now no only prevents rubbing of metal surfaces, but also provides a snug fit to tanks in base. No movement and less force needed to clamp them down.

I’m not sure what replacement you are referring to but I can say you’ll get a nice product from Progressive Dynamics. I would take a serious look at the PD 4655L. Nicely made and has a jumper on the board for a lithium charging profile.

I like the fuel line idea, I cut some sheet rubber circles and laid them down for that reason. My biggest concern was the rusted screws and holes in the frame. I have since secured the platform more positively using 4 stove bolts and some square tubing under the frame. This way I can be sure that 100 lbs of weight will not rely on 4 already rusting screws as the only attachment.

I used the clear door edge guard sold in automotive places in 3' strips.

I'm still curious as to why ETI stopped welding on the propane tank platform. Ours is rock solid. I wonder if asked if they would reconsider how they are currently doing it with 4 screws. Seems like this could be a potential problem as these trailers age. These screws are already snapping on newer trailers. https://www.escapeforum.org/forums/f...tml#post289218

I replaced the locks on the exterior storage compartments for the second time with these. They are expensive but you get what you pay for. They are the best cam locks I have found. Even if you don’t order from them, check out their measuring guide. It alone will save a lot of time when ordering the correct locks and size.

Valence for blinds redo

Our used rig came with I assume some custom upholstery, not favored by our eyes. Tried Ritt dying a pillow with a chocolate brown and not satisfied. It's a green "French Provincial" patterned look on the cushions and pillows and a similar unpatterned green on the blind valences.

I removed as a trial the above sink valence, trimmed it a scooch to be less than 2" wide, radius sanded the corners and banded it with an iron on 2" wide hot melt glue backed oak veneer. I also veneered the bottom edge, although no one will see it. 3 coats of satin varnish and ready for mounting.

Looks like the other 6 valences will get the same treatment.

Nice and maybe an Escape first. I don't recall anyone else doing this mod. Maybe you'll start a new trend.

Great idea, I will plan to do the same. I agree that the current 4 self tapping screws are likely inadequate for the weight of the propane tanks.

The stabilizers are held on by 4 same size screws and they carrying a heck of a lot more load than the propane tray.

...and according to this post two of the screws on your stabilizers already broke! Too much torque during the install or an inadequate fastener? Likely a combination of the two.

I wish I had taken a picture of how corroded the screws and holes were.

That is a great idea. Will do that tomorrow after I winterize. Thanks!

Cargo Box

Got my cargo box to the stage where I could get a good idea of finished weight of the both the box and the items that it's being made to carry.

The box is 30 lbs. and the steel frame under it is 12 lbs. Added the contents; zero gravity chair 25 lbs, two camp tables 5 lbs., Directors chair 7 lbs and my kayak gear bag 12 lbs., for a grand total of 101 lbs. Well within carrying limits which is a moot point anyway because I'll have a secondary mounting point.

Good pop rivet practice, blew through 200 so far and I'm not finished yet. I have air, hydraulic and manual riveters. The air and hydraulic ones are good for heavier rivets like 3/16" s/s but for the smaller aluminum rivets I like the old one for the feedback and ability to control the squeeze.

Threw the potable panel on top. It would be pretty easy to make a bracket to carry it there but it's not the most efficient location. I'll reserve it for use on my mast where it's much more efficient. However if I see a steal of a deal on a flexible panel I'll probably buy it. I've got lots of Eterna bond left.

You are going to have to lock that box to the trailer or it will disappear. That is the problem with making/having something nice.
Is the door going to fold down into a table to bbq on?

Today I accessed our batteries and topped them off with distilled water. Checked all the nuts for being tight, no corrosion, put lid back on and strapped in place, trailer plugged in. We take the cushions and cloth items out and store them in the house. We remove all food and freezables. We put Dry Rid tubs (2) in the trailer. Mothballs on the outside where mice would most likely climb. Dryer sheets Taped along the gasket on the main door. The building is pretty tight and if I see a light leak, I foam it in with rodent repellant foam from Wildlife control supplies. I have the gun and disposable crevice extensions so things are tight when I get done. Sure hope things get a lot better next season as far as traveling safely. I kind of felt cheated this past season but we stayed healthy and that’s the main thing these days.

More sunny days, big zucchini, brighter red peppers, massive tomatoes and spuds where one is a meal next year Jim. The wind at your back and all the roads just a little downhill. Hope springs eternal in the human breast.
