What is a Classic?

Is it a straight wall Escape. (Mostly Pre 1917 Escape models.) Or is it a 2020 front bed E-21. Check out the Escape E-21 inventory for sale listing.

Classics

It is my understanding that Escape owners consider the Classic model to be the Escapes made with the curved (airplane style) door to fit the curved wall body style on all models made until mid 2016 when a build out occurred and the company changed over to a flat door and a less rounded body style. I haven’t followed what the company is calling their newer models and configurations because I’m barely able to remember what day of the week it is. I’m calling our 2013 21 foot Escape, the sixth one to leave the factory after the introductory offer, a classic. She’s been very very good to us. I’m sure the reference to 1917 is a typo. Early Escapes were about 2005 or so.

You have 1st G curved wall units and 2ndG straight wall units starting in 2016. Classic denotes Tammy and Reace design models with the new owners changing the classic layout in the E21 to the standard E19 layout, thus the NE or new edition. That is the way I understand it.

What Dave said is my understanding. 1st Gen = Classic, 2nd Gen is just a plain old 2nd gen.

Exactly what I mentioned in #3, anything being made utilizing the T&R layouts are being called "Classic" and the NE or "new edition" is the E21 in the classic E19 layout.

I'm with Iowa Dave on this topic. "It is my understanding that Escape owners consider the Classic model to be the Escapes made with the curved (airplane style) door to fit the curved wall body style".

We may have to change our thinking with the new owners calling classic as existing models not a new model....regardless of what we may use here.

Well, somebody should tell them. After all, I asked what a 21NE was and they didn't really know, or hadn't decided yet.

I've yet to hear anyone with a 2nd gen call it a classic if that helps.

Maybe we could call the 21 NE 'New Coke'?

The lady I travel with and I will call our 2013 Escape 21 a classic as long as we own it. To me it’s like “Big Bronco” “Sting Ray” or dozens of other names owners and aficionados have come up with describing a series in a long line of body styles. So a come lately owner or Manufacturer can call them anything they want, not surprisingly for those who know me, I’m not changin’. Have fun with this.

I looked up RV designations and there seems to be no standard, but R usually means rear and F usually means front. I also have no Idea what NE would stand for. Maybe they could use RB for rear bed and FB for front bed. i.e. E-21 RB for a rear bed model.

They call it Classsic

They probably refered to the original Escapes as Classic because of the similarities to my 1977 Trillium 4500 I had. The Trillium and Surfside were the inspiration for the first Escapes.

Classic designation

We just finished our build sheet for the "standard" layout 21 and Escape has it labeled at the top 21' Classic.

It would make sense for the new owners, who are not familiar with the 1stG models, only the 2ndG models which they continue to produce, to label them as classic. That is to show a difference with a new model that they produce, as the E21 NE...the manufacturer controls the nomenclature.

I agree with Glenn. Why do you think Federal Express changed to FedEx? Jim do you drive a Mustang or a 'Stang? I own a 1953 Ford F-100, but it's affectionately known as a 'slant cab' to those in the know. Ford certainly doesn't call it that...

We can call it what we want, as Dave points out, but to avoid confusion for new owners I think we may have to use what the factory puts on the build sheet....a conundrum at its best.

Rebranding, just like others who have dropped full names and use initials. TD bank doesn't want American customers to think Toronto and Dominion.
Besides FedEx got to design their logo so that there is an arrow where the E and X meet. Now you will never be able to not see it.
