What is this on the rear?

Hello all - I have been getting my build pictures over the last week or so and finally got to see the rear end. Can someone please tell me what the extended grey thingamagig is at the bottom left of this photo? Thanks!

Light for your license plate.

Enjoy,

I never saw this extended rear bumper and battery locations before.

Is this something specific that you requested?

That is the configuration on only the 17's.

Thanks for the answer. That rear bumper is how they locate the batteries on the outside of the 17s. Nice location imo for my needs.

We really like it on our 17B. Asked ETI if they would do it on our new 21NE. They said no.

You probably need more weight in the front with the tandem axle.......

That is what I figured. Former C-130 driver, W&B is always important.

Not because of the tandem axle - the number of axles has nothing to do with the weight distribution or the desired tongue weight. The 17' has always had the battery at the back while the 15' had in on the tongue - both with a single axle. The 21C has the battery inside near the back while the 21NE has it on the tongue - with the same axles, frame, and overall body dimensions. But...

Yes, mass (weight) distribution is important. Lots of details (of proportions and component placement) vary between models, so where the battery should be placed for balance varies.

Most travel trailers have the battery on the tongue because that's the easiest (and thus cheapest) place to put it. Escape used the extended rear frame from the beginning because that original model needed the battery there to avoid excessive tongue weight, due to the proportions of the trailer.
