What to look for when buying used?

Hello,

I'm curious to learn what people think is critical to look for/inspect when buying a used Escape? We will be new to fiberglass and escape trailers and want to make sure we due our due diligence. Here are some things that come to mind:
  • Leaks (not sure how to actually check)
  • Frame rust (can you see if it's insulated)?
  • All appliances work?
  • Soft spots on floor?
  • Water / pluming works?
  • Electrical - both on shore power and inverter
  • Sinks
  • Toilet flushes
  • Other?

What else would you look for or what would you recommend in terms of checking the above?

Thanks!

I doubt you will find a soft spot in the floor as it is fiberglassed directly into the floor of the shell.

There are some early models that require some plates welded to the frame and this is a known recall that may or may not have been done.

I would look for abnormal tire wear and take a 5 ft straight edge and put it across both wheels on each side to make sure they are straight.

If frameless windows...open each one and inspect that the two panes have not separated.

Roll out the awning and check it.

Check the roof fan works.

If a two burner, flush mount stove...check the valves are not loose.

Good luck on your search.

Great list Eggscape! I think I would also ask about what their black tank regime is...such as, what chemicals and toilet paper they use and if any issues with the black tank sensors? How they dump (ie Do they leave the value open when hooked up?) ...just to get a better feel of how they took care of of it. Also, good to know if you want to continue using the same products or rinse/clean well and switch products.

If you find a nice used one, I would also call ETI and ask them if there is any recall or such on that particular year or model. I'm not totally sure but I think they can also provide you with the original build sheet options on units they sold. Might need a VIN number??

Best of luck to you on your quest. -Bea
