Winter weather

I was just wondering how forum contributor, Jon Vermilye, in Oswego NY, is fairing. Nailed with snow? Shoveling your roof? News reports are pretty dire for Upstate NY.

All OK?

And how about the rest of the weather affected forum members, NY or elsewhere?

I wondered about Jon as well, no doubt Oswego got hit with the snow like Buffalo.

As far as us, the last few days we were the only province in the country without weather warnings of some kind. Our cold is moderating so all happy here. No doubt many though are suffering with cold, snow, ice, etc. hoping they at least have power.

On edit: Just checked Jon's website looks like he's on a trip to the southwest, lucky guy!

That's the headline, but he actually got back home to Oswego on November 2. He was having some health issues and thought it would be better to be close to home and his medical care than gallivanting around the country this winter.

Believe it or not, other than some painful back problems, I'm doing OK. I made it as far as the Hungry Mother State Park rally in Virginia, had my second AFib attack in 10 years, and decided to work with my local doctors rather than deal with unknowns & long distances to any medical help.

As to the snow, 40 miles north of me they have 4' & it is still snowing. Here in Oswego there is 1" on the ground! Lake effect snow comes in narrow bands and this storm is hitting further up on the end of Lake Ontario, and, of course, the Buffalo area off Lake Erie. We did get down to 8°F but it has "warmed up" to 30°F this morning. I do miss Quartzsite winters.

Thanks all for your concerns.

Glad to hear you're doing OK Jon, I had forgotten that you'd gone back home. I guess that's why your 2022-2023 trip to the southwest page stops at Hungry Mother.

We're watching the PNW weather hourly! We leave Friday to pick up our 5.0 on 1/3. We're best friends with the WSDOT website, specifically I90 through Snoqualmie pass. Once we get through there and get back out, it's smooth sailing... knock on wood.

We got down to 0(never been below 9, since I've been here), & Duke Energy texted to cut down on energy use, for the next 48 hrs. or rolling blackouts. Christmas morn. I turned on the 2 front stove burners(gas), cut the thermostat down. No TV, read. Duke thanked us all, no rolling black outs. Got to finish the tile hearth to put wood stove in. Pipe froze on pond plumbing.

when she posted that graphic, LOL here was mid 60s and mostly sunny all week, but last night, a 'pineapple express' storm hit... We've had 4.5" so far at my house since last night, but its starting to lighten up. I bet this is going to make a mess of the high Sierra tho.

Cold? I'll tell you about cold!

It got so cold here in frozen, tundra, Wasteland Wisconsin....so cold....I had to put a blanket on the furnace just to keep the flames from freezing.

21F (above) today, mid-day. Almost a heat wave.

The Pineapple Express has given a reprieve for the next 30 hours or so. It’s so nice to get rain in California. The interesting thing about a Pineapple Express rain storm is the warmth that comes with it. It was warmer in my area early this morning than it was yesterday afternoon. Not much, but a little.

Had Christmas 2.0 at our place last night and all day today. Great food with pies, A beautiful Bundt cake, several home made pickled vegetables including pickled garlic, beets and well…..pickles. I cooked a 10 lb ham in my 14”deep Dutch oven. Basted with honey and pineapple juice. It was challenging to get the heat up and maintain it but I got it done in 2 1/2 hours. It was 5 degrees out when I started but had a stiff 15 mph wind that made it tougher. I usually stand up three pieces of plywood around the oven but didn’t today and should have. I had to recharge the briquettes twice so 90 briquettes. No worries I had plenty.
I’m glad it’s only Christmas once a year though.
On to New Years and trimming low branches in the orchard and around the yard. On nasty weather days I’ll put old photos in the three photo albums I was gifted today.

Weather has moderated here. Snow is about gone for now. Last two sunset sunset pictures of the year taken off the back during halftime. Happy New Year to all the fine fiberglass folks out there. Hope to get more camping in this upcoming year and see some country I haven’t seen before.

hah, 6.23" in the last 48 hours, 11.13" in the past 7 days, 19" total rain this month so far (a few more hours to go, and its still raining). If the rain doesn't dry up Jan-March, we're on our way to a good wet year, which should nicely offset the drought of the past few years, however central valley ground water will probably never come back, because the soil has compacted so much.

Hi Dave

Happy New Year to you and Rita, weather here is much better although there's still snow here until April no doubt. We should be over TX right now on our way to MX but unfortunately Beth has come down with pneumonia so have rebooked to go into weeks. My sisters and husbands have arrived or enroute and will be enjoying much warmer weather than we.

You say you'd like to see different country. why not venture up our way and again attend the MB really and we could go on and I'll show you some other parts of this province.

Hope Beth feels better soon, Adrian. We plan to head your way in early June. After the rally, we plan to head to other parts of BC and then to AB, to visit family, then onto Dominion City to visit more family! Laura and I would love to get together with you folks. When is the MB rally?

Dave, there are some beautiful spots north of the 49th parallel. I recommend that you take Adrian's advice. No pressure though.

Happy new year to all.

Laura and Darrell

MB rally is August 11-13, see last post here...https://www.fiberglassrv.com/forums/...lly-97657.html

It would be great if you could attend. Dave and Rita's has been the only US Escape to ever come to the rally back in 2016.

Our son teaches in Dominion City.
