You're gonna think we're nuts..

Ok.. Yep we're crazy.. remember how we bought the 17ft Escape Plan "B", then decided on the 19ft AS.. At the time we wanted to travel more and thought the space was going to be enough..

wait for it.. wait for it..

We are selling the 19ft AS and getting a 24ft Itasca Impulse.. I know we just went to the dark side.. it does have fiberglass though so when you see us at the Rally, you won't be too shocked.

Anyway the saga continues as I thought you find it kind-of funny.. In two more years we'll be in a 13ft Escape wondering what the heck just happened..

So, is that one of those motor homes?
You know, the ones where you have to put everything away so you can drive to the corner store for milk?

Re: You're gonna think we're nuts..

No slide outs, just a box that eats gas.. It does have a queen size corner bed though..once we get it we'll post a video or pictures on the other RVTravelTV.com site.

What's the rationale behind the decision?

Re: You're gonna think we're nuts..

I guess you can mount a couple of those electric bicycles on the back so you can get milk. And you can tow a boat...

There's a whole list.. we went through the pros & cons.. The biggest pro was the utilization space for the size.. We felt that when towing we were almost 40ft in total length.. our Truck is around 18ft and the RV would be approx 6 1/2 longer, really not too bad. The gas mileage is about 1/2 of the what we get towing so about $500 more per year in gas ( using $3.00/gal). Kind-of reasonable, but the downside is you have to take the RV everywhere so driving to see stuff is a tad more of a hassle. We did contemplate the idea of getting a highway legal Scooter that fits on the back.. but that's just an thought..

Since in the trailer had around 3ft that was hitch & propane making the space 16ft. What we gain is more use-able space in the RV.. and there's a lot more storage, bigger Fridge and larger tank size for boondocking it also has an integrated generator.. So after all was considered we thought it would fit our needs for longer trips..

That kind-of the "cliff notes" version

Re: You're gonna think we're nuts..

Enjoy your new RV Jeff! We all choose our vehicles based upon our needs. I know lots of folks with those giant, multi-slide out Class C whales who think we nuts for traveling in something as tiny as an Escape or a Casita.

Re: You're gonna think we're nuts..

Jeff, did you look at any of the MB diesel powered Sprinter chassis based land whales? They actually get quite decent gas mileage. We used to have one of their ancestors - the Rialta which was based on an extended VW Eurovan chassis. It was actually very well made (much better than our Scamp that replaced it) and fun to drive. They had the serious deficit that no one wanted to work on the VW part. Almost every VW dealers wouldn't touch them and (around here) no independent places wanted to work on them either -- said that Eurovans needed too many special tools and were just too hard to work on. Its floor plan layout was quite similar to our 17B. For us though, it made more sense towing. With our land we need a pickup anyway and also love being able to drop off "Blue" at our campsite and head out down rough roads where lots of the more beautiful trails start.
