120 volt / USB Outlets
Has anyone changed out their standard 120 volt outlets with the 120 volt outlets that have the USB charging port built in. Seems like it would be a good idea in some locations. Can this be done? See any problems with wiring or amperage?

Escape is using a new type of electrical outlet where the wires do not easily detach. I described it in my thread here http://www.escapeforum.org/forums/f8...ions-8841.html

I thought about doing that but I noticed I had 120v outlets all over the place along several USB plug ins for charging I had accumulated over the years so I just put a couple of the plug ins in a couple of 120v outlets.

Note the the USB port on those will only work when 110v is available.

If you have (or convert to) standard style receptacles (not the Self Contained Device style now used by Escape) it can be done.
There is no issue with current capacity, because the power used by common USB ports is trivial compared to the 120 V AC circuit capacity.

I did and no issues about 3 years . They will only work with 120 , but it gives other options for charging if we have 120 . Pat

If you can only use them when you have city power wouldn't it be better to change your 12 outlets to the combo USB/lighter style adding more if needed.

Agreed. It makes sense to have the USB’s available all the time. I swapped out the 12V outlets with the combo units. If you are always plugged in then it doesn’t matter.

I too was going to add that I would rather add additional 12V supplied USB plugs, as that would be way more useful than 120V ones, as being plugged into the grid is not often done.
I plan to build someday when not so busy, a better charging centre rather than have longish cords hanging about. Right now we really have no trouble using the 3 supplied 12V outlets with 2 USB ports on each, with the odd supplement of a cigarette plug adaptor for 2 more.
The thing to realize is that it is very rare to need to charge multiple devices at any time. When camping it is mostly our phones and sometimes camera batteries. My wife does use a tablet but it can charge while we are out for the day.

I installed a USB/120 outlet via a power pedestal in my table in both my E19 and E21. Everything there where you need it. I can leave charging items elsewhere at other 12v/USB outlets in the trailer. I had 5 extra installed.

If you're using Android devices consider a QC3.0 usb charger like the one below, will give you very fast charge with most newer devices. I added a couple and will probably add more, I don't have the need for more 12v sockets.

We really aren’t that power hungry . The 12 volt outlet and the 2 changed 120 to usb /120 is all we need . We are camping . There is 12 volt outlets in the truck about 4 mostly for GPS and if phones needs charging , backup camera monitor and tire sensor monitor . Linda’s kindle last for months when it is charged before a trip . Have just a little data on my phone to check e-mails , ring etc. in other words really like to leave the tablets , computers off . That is the reason we left home and our camping . Everybody thinks differently about this but we are old enough we only had pay phones to use and books to read and really enjoyed a simpler life . Think what your needs are and go with that. Pat

We installed a (4) USB charging shelf under the overhead cabinet at the foot of the bed. It's hung by 4 all-thread rods (8-32 thread, I think: it's light weight). I had ETI run 12V DC drops in all four corners of the trailer, at the overhead cabinets. One of them powers the USB's. the outlet has 112VDC input and 5VDC output. (The JEFAtech unit is our wifi )
