17b Dinette /Bed Concern

Just bought a 17b and am immediately concerned about the two weak appearing dinette table/ bed systems. The table tops seem too flimsy to me to support my 225 lbs when the beds are configured. In order to lay down, you muct first sit down, and the table tops seem risky to me to sit on even for a moment. Escape says they are not weight rated which seems odd to me given the time they have had to rate them. So, anyone have these concerns or are the table tops safe to lay upon ? Thanks.

Well, take it from a former 236 pounder (just lost 35 with 20 more to go!) and my 145 pound wife, never a creek or complaint from the dinette bed in our 17B these last 4 years. We leave it up permanently and just use the front dinette to sit.

I replaced the rails that hold up the table with oak strips. They seem a lot stronger than the poplar or whatever that white wood they use for framing is. Still, have never heard of one crashing down.

I am 220 and well my wife isn't quite well... I'm sure we're around 400lbs and slept on that table for 5 years without a concern.

I've found that the cut corners are best placed against the wall. If they are not and you sit on the edge of the bed ( front dinette anyway ) the bed can tip some. It's not a big deal, but just something to be aware of.

I wanted to do that but my dinette (2011) is tapered so the table won't fit that way.
I always figured that was on purpose but maybe it was an accidental thing!

It's the same in our 15 - the tapering. In the classic 17B the bed width is no more than 49 inches(or even 48") wide, that likely makes enough of a difference to be able to reverse the table when down. 15A bed is 54 inches wide.
