Question 2017 dome light: opening it? / modifications.

Hi all

I quite like the 2017 dome lights inside the 2017 Escapes, however they are a bit harsh and will be improved by my removing the frosted dome, and putting in a layer of theatrical light frosted diffuser.

(The diffuser comes in big sheets and can be purchased at a serious photography store, or online. The main manufacturers are LEE and ROSCO if I recall correctly.)

So how does one remove the dome of the 2017 model interior dome light?

And

I will have to check that there is clearance inside the fixture, and also that the bulb doesn't get too hot. The diffuser is quite heat resistant, but I don't want any problems, of course.

Maybe I could setup a service of locating the best diffuser gel, cutting to size, and mailing to 2017 Escape owners all over the world.

Speaking of which, I saw in the ETI office that a handful of Escapes were sold to Asia - really? Does anyone know if they were shipped there? Just curious.
Cool.

Thanks

John

Unless it is a new fixture, the lenses slide away from switch. They are tough. Set finger nails between lens and housing and pull away from switch. That is how the 2015 model's lights open.

Since the theatrical paper was a bit of a pain to find and research I dug through the cabinet and found a roll of parchment paper. Cut to size it does provide a reasonable method of reducing the glare on those ceiling lights. Does not seem to reduce the light emitted, just the bulb glare. I believe I have older model LED's, the variety that are not SMD's. Not sure how it compares to the theatrical paper.
