In the 5.0TA, there are cubbies in the front corners. I wouldn't use it for a glass of water, but a water bottle that's leak proof would work. Plus, you need to remember, there's space on both sides of the mattress. It doesn't fit flush side-to-side in the 5.0TA like it did in the 5.0 Classic.
I have a ton of room beside the bed, because I'm not using a queen mattress. I sleep on a twin.

Could you add a smaller version of a drop-down shelf at either side of the bed in front of those little cubbyholes? Edited: To clarify, I mean that they would flip up next to the outside walls, not over the bed itself.

The wood is pretty thin. I don't think there would be enough strength to hold up any kind of shelf. And it's only about 10" wide at the most...

You could just make a small table, maybe like a rectangle footstool, that would fit between the bed and the loft side.

But I think if planned for ahead, support might be added to those side structures somewhere for a drop-down table. I know I had a drop-down shelf added directly to an outer wall and it was blocked in during the build process. And ten inches would be plenty big for my glass of water! (Maybe not a night cap, though. )

I have ideas for the bedside are. Just ideas for now though, no plans yet. That will be mod #47.
A wee box that fit in the gap between mattress and wall could provide a too place to set a glass.

Donna, Your twin bed frees up lots of space! I hadn't thought about that modification...thanks!

It does! And it makes it really easy to make the bed too.

I use a small wooden cutting board for a side table in my 5.0 ta. It works great for keeping a bottle of water, my glasses and my phone while it charges.

We bought small "trunks" - they look like a trunk but they are really big boxes- that we use beside the bed as a night table, then we have the trunk for to storage as well. It can't move really between the mattress and the carpet being underneath. they work really well.

If I put a glass of water by the bed it would end up spilled somewhere in the night. In our 5th wheel we use water bottles and just set them next to the bed.

We have a 5.0 (guess you could call it a classic) and we have ample room for a book, book light, glasses on either side of the mattress. We keep a small, rectangular, container on either side for such things - often we want to read without disturbing the other with a regular light. We don't take water to bed but if we did then a water bottle would work or even a cup with a lid and straw and put it in the corner so as not to knock it accidentally.
Looking forward to seeing the 5.0TA to see the changes and updates that have been made and get more brilliant ideas.
