5.0 Storage
Has any one ever considered, or investigated installing an Escape Storage Box, on the rear of a 5.0?
I searched the threads for 5.0 and storage, but found nothing. Sorry if it’s been discussed, and I missed it.
I guess you could eliminate the Bike receiver, and, perhaps with a lifted trailer, the spare could be mounted beneath. It would certainly be a lot more esthetic than a hitch rack storage tray/box.
Would Escape sell a box without having first attached it to a trailer?

Just remember the bottom of the box is not flush, it is made to fit inside the Escape rails and the box drops down below.

I used another Solution on the rear of my 5.0TA, getting an aluminum box built, and mounting a bike rack on the top.

While not obvious, it's an interesting idea because that box is shaped to fit the front of a trailer, and the back of the 5.0 might be nearly the same shape as the front of a 21'. I don't recall anyone ever mentioning that they had tried it.
Unfortunately, even if the body at the rear of a 5.0 from the belly band down is identical to the body at the front of a 21', the frame is three inches higher at the rear than the front, so the frame and bumper would probably keep the storage box from fitting in the desired position.
Of course, there is also the issue that the box would block the tail lamps, so another set would need to be mounted on the box.

They have in the past, but are unlikely to now. An issue identified in the past has been with shipping the box - it's awkward and could easily be damaged in shipping if not crated.

Nope, no need for a lift axle. My spare is mounted under the front of the trailer, accessed by a spare tire cable lift.

I would love to see how you put your spare under your 5.0! Did you add a bracket?

That is cool, I was thinking about mounting it up by the landing skids, at one time, then I thought, why not just add the tire to my truck spare cable, there's plenty of room under there, and the cable can hold two tires as easy as one. with the F350 the spare is well up behind the bumper, with the escape tire, it hangs down about as much as my spare did in my ancient Tacoma, about as low as the top of the diff. If it bottoms out, I am doing it wrong (:

We have one of these already and I'm putting on the back of my 5.0 when I get it.

Nice but the box weighs 53 lb. which means you'd only be able to put in 97 lb. to reach the 150 lb. limit for the hitch, unless you beefed it up like Jim did when he built his carrier.

I added a StowAway II to my 17B. No reason it wouldn't work on a 5.0TA...

That's not been a problem for 6 years on my Pop up AFrame trailer.

I had considered one of these, but could not go without a place to carry bikes. I had considered the front of the truck, but quickly discarded that thought. Plus, I wanted to keep weight closer to the rear of the trailer.
