One down and two to go

Finish the top tread this morning. I say finished but still have a bit of sanding and finish to go. Trying to decide what to put on red oak to go along with the maple. Framing the middle tread might take some creativity.

At first I didn’t have a floor (divider) in our top step and felt the usable space was wasted. I installed an easy to remove floor in the bottom of the top step. Our rarely used Renogy 100 watt portable goes in through the top step and then I simply put the floor back in the bottom of the top step. We use the top step mainly for needed shoe storage.

Enjoy,

Perry

Perry, That was the main reason I just did this mod. Get my 100 watt Renogy suitcase in this spot. jn

Getting there

Finished installing bottom step tonight. I couldn't have done it without the ideas and inspiration of other "ESCAPEES".

Glad I did it. Got back a couple of weeks ago from my first total boondocking trip. Unforeseen event caused me to return early but I spent over two weeks on the road with one week in Valley of the Gods southeastern Utah. A total of over4200 miles. That additional space housed a folding solar panel, a six gallon water can plus other items.

All of those mods are really well done; I'm envious. The hinged top step is one of my next mods. That would allow me to carry my full size folding table inside the trailer. I am also leaning towards re-carpeting the steps with a carpet that is much lower pile and a color that goes better with our grey flooring (for sure footedness when climbing sown at night - I'm quite clumsy).

I also would like to open up the front storage area for better access to the top of my jacks and a bit more storage area.

Currently I am working on a red cedar slat floor for our wet bath to make it a bit more comfortable to stand on during those cooler evenings. I'll post a pic when done

I would like to see that bath floor when you're done. I have "borrow" other people's ideas. jn

The hinged top step and the front storage compartment expansion are 2 of the nicest upgrades you can do with the 5.0 ta. Lots of available space just waiting to be utilized.

Hey jnfrombigt, forgot to ask what you decided on for the finish, did you stain or is that a monocoat?
Looks great!

Thank you. I have to give credit to WanderBred. I have a grey floor and grey fabric so I wanted something that would blend. I didn't achieve what WanderBred did but , while it doesn't reflect in the photo. the grey is definitely noticeable in the red oak grain. Min Wax preconditioner for oil base stain, Min Wax Classic Grey 271 oil base stain and Varathane Ultimate polyurethane water base finish. Lot's of sanding and many coats.
