A few more Dickinson cooktop questions

Barb has changed her mind, and now wants the convection /micro in our E19 build. Is there enough depth to install the Dickinson and still keep it flush mount? Will the two appliances be too close from a heat generation standpoint?

Since it is a marine stove, how does it perform at higher elevation campsites?

I have no idea on how the combo, but I have a Di ckinson range which regularly gets used at just over 1,000m and a bunch up to 1,500m with no issues at all. Works great on the ocean beaches too.

FWIW to the question of depth only ...

The Standard ETI SDS2 cooktop installation manual shows 3.448" from countertop surface to bottom of stove; the gas connection is above the bottom of the stove on the 'side'.

The Dickinson Marine 2-burner installation manual shows 4.75" from countertop surface to bottom of stove; the gas connection protrudes 3/4" below the bottom of the stove near one corner (then add the depth of whatever fitting you attach).

Neither stove's installation manual makes any reference to required clearance between the bottom and other / combustible materials (whereas they do for above and to the sides above the countertop).

Not a direct answer, but yeah the Dickinson is obviously at least ~1-3/8" deeper below the countertop, quite a bit more in the vicinity of the gas connection when you consider fittings.

As always, consultation with your ETI build-coordinator advised for your specific list of 'wants' ... good luck!

I’m trying to find the installation instructions for the convection oven. I have the manual, but nothing on the install. I’ve requested measurements from Joldie, but have not heard back yet. I have the Dickinson manual, and your info on the gas line is helpful.

I had asked about the Dickinson previously, but the oven has got me figuring again. When we first started down this path ETI would install the Dickinson, but now they won’t. I don’t have a problem with self install if it will fit, but I need additional info with the oven add.

Thanks

Not related to your question, but, if you get the convection microwave in the Escape 19, get the two drawers under the wardrobe. You lose the two drawers on the sink / stove side with the convection microwave in the Escape 19.

Randy, look on page 10 "Installation" in that manual for the gas line details, the fitting projection is mentioned in the text at the top of the page, the general location indicated in a drawing below that.

It's a rainy day here and you've got me vicariously interested now, what's the make / model of that convection oven?

1 We are getting only 1 drawer under the wardrobe as we do hang some stuff, and store some stuff their too.

2. According to ETI they install the Contoure RV 190S. They have a short video on it not installed. They call it the RV 1905.

Here ya go: https://www.rvupgradestore.com/v/vsp...ON_TrimKit.pdf

There is no 'installation manual' for the oven itself per se since absent the trim kit it's used as a countertop model.

The trim kit includes ducts to direct the venting to the front of the unit, note the absence of clearance requirements other than the cabinet opening height of 15.14".

Just for the sake of speculation ....
When I add the vertical dimensions of the Dickinson 2-burner, it's gas fittings, and the Contoura 190 required cabinet inside dimensions (with no clearance or divider allowance) I'm within 1/4" of the height of the Dickinson Caribbean range that Jim Bennett installed. We already know that the Caribbean won't sit flush above the ETI standard bottom cabinet height - it requires modification of the whole cabinet 'vertical stack' to fit.

Methinks that unfortunately you're out of luck insofar as fitting both the Dickinson 2-burner and the Countoura Convention Oven absent alteration of the standard ETI cabinet framing below the stove/oven combination. To my knowledge ETI has never entertained altering the vertical dimensions of that lowest cabinet framing and door. While the various trailers have different horizontal dimensions in the PS galley, they seem to be uniform insofar as the vertical dimension of that lowest cabinet opening against the floor (which makes some sense as it relates to the wheel-well height and clearance for 'full depth' cabinets above the lowest section).

But hey, I'd love to be wrong, for your sake!

Thanks for all of the great info, and I will keep digging. When I hear from ETI, I’ll post that info too.

When I was working on my build sheet, I hit the cut off line between when they would install the Dickinson cooktop, and when they would not. They would not install the Dickinson that I was going to supply. My configuration specialist did say that they could delete the standard cooktop and they would run the propane line to the cooktop area, so that I could do a self installation. I also had the convection microwave on my build sheet. I asked my configuration specialist to check with the production team to see if they could provide any input on the fitment of the Dickinson with the convection oven. I provided her with the measurements from the installation instructions of the Dickinson. Also at this time, there were several people just ahead of me who had a Dickinson installed by ETI, so I would've thought that they were fairly familiar with the Dickinson installation. This is the response that I received. "I just checked with the production manager and as far as he can recall the depth of the Dickinson cooktop is fairly close to our standard and cannot foresee any issues". So... I feel like, who knows whether it will fit or not. There were already complaints at that time (March) regarding the suburban cooktop... and I knew I didn't want that thing installed. So supposedly they are supposed to be running the propane line to the cooktop area for me.

I’ll check and see if I can get a propane line run since I want the spray foam. I find it hard to believe the can run a propane line with no appliance and still meet certification.

Yes, I am doubtful about it as well. The actual build process on my trailer should start soon and I expect that they will be contacting me to tell me that it can't be done. My build sheet shows $100 credit for the deletion of the standard cooktop, but no additional charge for running the propane line. It indicates the propane line should be run to the cooktop location, but there was no charge listed for that.

Sometimes manufacturers numbers aren't accurate, but in this case I can tell you they are. The cooktop thickness is 4 3/4 inches, and the gas fitting will need about another half inch (elbow flare fitting).

KSFisk I will be following how your build goes for the galley. Are you still trying to fit the Dickinson and convection?

I’ve also started a thread on the ENO cooktop in case My Dickinson plan is derailed by the convection add.

I’ve also considered simply raising the Dickinson as an option. None of the other choices are flush mount, so that may be the trade off.

Yes, my plan is to install the Dickinson after delivery of my 5.0, in early June. That Eno looks like a good fallback plan!

Is that with the ETI convection installed?

Yes. However, Centex's post makes me think I might have to let that dream die though.

With that additional info, apparently based on actual 'hands-on' experience from rbryan4, it just might squeeze in - I estimated more than 'about another half inch' for the fittings below the Dickinson stove in my speculative 'paper exercise', and small inches can make the difference.

I suggest y'all don't give up hope until you've got the actual components in hand and apply yourself diligently to an innovative solution (more than I would reasonably expect a manufacturer focused on rapid production to do).

For example - careful alignment of the stove relative to the oven underneath might eliminate conflict with the projecting gas fittings .....
