A Stronger Lock - And It's White
Swapped out the entry door plastic lock for a powder coated steel version. I also like that it's white, a subtle change.
An interesting note about the installation. When I removed the original lock, I found that Escape had built a 'gasket' out of very thin wood around the door opening. I suppose this was necessary to make the door the right thickness for the lock, or maybe it was for structural strength as well. I left it in place when I installed the new one and it fit perfectly.

Nothing. It's mainly for the look of white instead of black - like changing the belly band from black to red. I just received a white grab bar as well, to replace the black one.
It is a stronger lock because it's steel instead of black plastic, but in all honesty, RV locks aren't known for their security either way.

I have no idea Jim. Pretty much every one I've noticed is plastic.

Mine's plastic, most noticeably on the inside handle.

Originally I had the Fastec lock which was recalled and replaced, maybe the newer (non Fastec) ones that Escape switched to are plastic?

Hmm. Mine is all metal far as I can tell. Have not had any problems with it. Powder white is pretty nice, though.

Yeah, it looks like they used to use a Fastec (AP Products) that was made out of die cast zinc. The one in your photo Myron looks to be the same as this one:

Plastic is the new steel, didn't y'all know?
I think my choice would be the chrome one. I do like the idea of steel better, but like Robert pointed out, any of them are easily broken into. LINK

I went round and round about the chrome vs the white Jim. (I know, pathetic to be debating such a minor detail). But in the end, I went with white to match other exterior hardware.

Just as a reference for those with slightly older trailers, here's a picture of the original lock on our 2015 - the plastic one:

That's what is on Ten Forward. It's a Bauer brand, if you care.

The plate on the side which serves as a fixed handle appears to be stamped of steel. The outer housing and handle, on the other hand, may be metal but seem very unlikely to be steel. Some cast non-ferrous metal seems more likely; I can't imagine anyone casting or forging steel for this purpose, or doing it for the price of one of these units.

It is also possible to buy a lock from RVLocksAndMore.com which interchanges with these - again with a metal body in black, white, or chrome - that doesn't open with the usual master key. If you get that one, you can also buy compartment locks which are direct replacements for the universal CH751-keyed compartment locks but are keyed to match the door lock, and don't match other people's compartment locks.

True. The other parts are probably cast zinc. Interestingly, the interior of the lock had mostly plastic parts too, while the replacement was metal. The difference in weight of the two locks was significant.

Also true, but I went with a cam lock to replace the CH751 lock on the hatch.
