Added solar to 21C

Hey gang, I used Jim Bennett's semi-flexible panel install as a model to add two 100w panels to the roof of my 21C.

All in all it was much easier than I thought it would be. Wish there was a little more room to add some more.

I used the WindyNation 100w from Lowe's. They fit the exact width of the top section on the 21c. You can kinda see it in the picture. Originally I was going for the Renogy 100w but they were six inches longer and wouldn't fit.

Total cost for the panels, cables, and eternabond was just over $300.

How did you wire the new panels to the existing panel?

https://www.renogy.com/solar-y-branc...-mmf-ffm-pair/I connected the first two in parallel with a branch connector. Used 3ft of 10awg cable to connect them. Then an 6ft of 10awg cable from the front to the rear panel in parallel with another branch connector. That all feeds in to the on board controller.

I never thought it would be that simple but it is.

Looks like a nice fit. By any chance did you check the output before & after?

I’m assuming you mean the amps on the controller.

In that case, I was getting around 4-6 amps at this time of year with just the roof 190 watt panel. I had a 100w suitcase that I’d put out too and that bumped it up to 10-12 amps. Now I’m getting 10-12 amps regularly with just the roof. Highest reading was 14.2 today.

I said a little thank you to the portable panel when I put it away the day I installed these and hope I don’t need to get it out again for a long time.

I was just about ready to get that WindyNation flexible panel for my 19 but then measured my roof, and back of the AC it's area is 37 x 27 inches. Bummer.

Looks like there is plenty of room up front for more. The panels don’t all have to be the same size and orientation.
