Alternative Storage Box

We are in the process of switching from a 19 to 21C but the recent price increase of the storage box has caused it to be placed on the chopping block with some other now-pricey accessories.

I was looking at a TBV-49-BLK storage box that someone at the recent rally showed me. The measurements I get from finding it on-line are 50x21.5x18.5. But when I measure my current Escape storage box on our 19, it does not look like the TBV-49-BLK box will fit. But I know I saw one on a 21C!

Anyone have any ideas regarding this? Do you have to move the propane bottles?

At any rate, we need to find a decent storage box that is not so overpriced so any recommendations are appreciated either for the box I mentioned or a different one.

Thanks!

I stand to be correct…but at one time if you ordered a second trailer you got the storage box for free. Maybe this is not the case anymore.

Could you take your storage box from the 19 off and save it for the 21? Maybe the new owner of the 19 does not like the box…like us.

I don’t believe they do this anymore. There is a list of other things I saw somewhere they offer instead - I remember it being stuff like a second solar panel, EMS, power jack etc…lower cost items.

Is it still $800? If so that isn't overpriced- have you checked the prices of Thule & Yakima rooftop boxes?

You'll regret deleting IMO.

I asked like 2 months ago and they still give the box free to repeat customers. I used to think it was over priced at the 500 when i ordered. Now that i have it i would not consider another trailer with out it. wow just checked its up to $1,020.

I think that they no longer give the box free to returning customers. I did see the loyalty list, my term, in its place. A few of the items do cost some bucks. I'm a little surprised because the box is made in house and their cost wouldn't be that much less than stuff they have to buy.

My view, doesn't cost anything to ask.

No way you paid $500 Billy. Was $700 forever and even then people cheaped out and regretted it. Ok so now a Grand? So ditch the EMS if you boondock. And skip the 2nd Solar panel- hardly anyone really needs that. Power awning? Meh.

Wait- ETI allows Exchange Rate transactions? Thought they eliminated that for a new Profit Center.

They have since eliminated that. I believe I was one of the last few trailers that went out that way in 2020. Anyways my point is there has been a 82% price increase on the box.

$700 cad plus 82% =$1,274 Cad. much more than the current high inflation rate. That being said the box is very use full and is a big asset to the trailer. But I can understand the OP looking for alternatives .

sure an sorry to hear ETI is not giving it to repeat customers .

Bite the bullet

Get the box, as it is very useful, well made, compliments and matches the trailer well. Shipping and packaging costs are prohibitive after the purchase delivery. It will add to the value of your trailer. The box and link you included show a functional, but to my eye, not attractive and smaller box.
Do as you please, of course. My 2 cents.

I do not want to come across as being ungrateful and I want to thank everyone for the suggestion to keep the storage box on our build sheet. However, as a current owner of a 19 with a storage box I am pretty familiar with it and with how well it works for us.

So my initial question still remains which is if anyone has an alternative recommendation for the ETI storage box?

FYI - During our initial options discussion for our 21C a few weeks ago we learned that Escape no longer allows the storage box for free to repeat customers. They have been "outsourcing" it for at least a year as they no longer make it in-house. It also went from $800 to over $1,000 in the price increase announced a few days ago.

Thanks for the input everyone!!

To answer your question...

Never been a fan of the OEM Box, installed my own wedge/saddle box, moved batteries into a single cover box to the centre rear bumper, freeing up valuable internal storage in the saddle box. To fit properly & not interfere with the propane tank cover, key measurements are 12.5" deep x 61.5" length, ie:

Hope this helps answer your question.

Maybe you were an exception given your record number of Escape purchases.

If I recall Ron, I informed you about the perk and you were able to acquire one on your 2019 Escape?

Yes, I heard of the perk previously and forgotten all about it. Probably because I'd made my previous two trailer boxes and was expecting to make a third.

And then the morning of the pickup it was mentioned again so I phoned them and they said yes, I could have one and asked if I wanted it mounted.

That's why I'm one of the rare trailers that has both the vinyl guards and the box.

This is perfect - thank you! After your post I was able to find a similar one to the Better Built at Tractor Supply. Hopefully I will be able to compare the two and select one from there. I think either of these will look just fine and the best part is they are $500 to $600 less than the current price of the ETI box. Now if Ron in BC would just start up production of that nice aluminum storage box he made to carry on the rear of his 21, I could get one on each end!
