Black formica?
Has anyone installed black formica for countertops? If so, are you happy with your choice? I know it won't help brighten the interior but I purchased black and red fabric and think the black countertops would look cool. Or maybe red? Or maybe . . . Ohhhhh, so many choices, so little time!!! Can't believe how quickly it's flyin'!

I know some will boo this decision, but I had black (matte, uneven finish) laminate in my home and cabin bathrooms for years and years (have since remodeled). I loved it. I don't know about a gloss finish; that would add light reflection but also may show fingerprints and spots. You may consider black with speckles in it or some marbling effect or something like that to minimize the appearance of unwanted prints, etc.

We have black Formica in our 17B and love it. Since the wall and ceiling are lined with beige vinly(?) the dark table and countertop give a very nice contrast. We have the A/C ready option so we do have a vent (roughly above the fridge) with a white cover that lets in the light during the day. We never feel the trailer being "dark" even on the rainy days. We have the stock fabric for upholstery and love the combo.
We have couple more pictures of the interior in our album if you are interested. These pictures were taken on an early spring, overcast day:

No, we don't have black formica. But regarding the red and black theme, we really like these choices made by our trailer's original owners. The countertop complimenting the fabric and appliance colors is apparently Wilson Art "Milano Amber".

fabric for cushions
akoaaoka, we have on order the mineral jet radiance (is that what yours is? - It looks great!) for our 5.0 TA - coming early Sept, to contrast with a colorful zigzag stripe (red, gold, black, grey, white. I will try to edit this and put in a photo of the print.
soultrek ... love your colors!

We also have the Mineral Jet Formica. We really like the black. Also matches the oven and the custom door handles/hinges as well as the black edging on the countertops.

Hi Charlie and Lucy. Yes the Mineral Jet Radiance is what we have. Since it bounces off light it really doesn't feel as dark as it sounded. We copied the idea from KarenH!
Your fabric choice sounds like great fun. The shiny black should work beautifully!

Very handsome! And I love those door handles and hinges as well! Would you mind sharing where you found them?

I loved the look of the black hardware, too, until I counted up how many hinges were needed even in the little 15. Youza.
I still may do it sometime as it's an easy change out.

Ha! Haven't counted yet. C o u l d be a deal breaker. Then again, after all the other options I'm choosing, that's probably small change. (I keep telling myself: this is your home, this is your retirement . . . Now I understand the bumper sticker that says, "I'm spending my kids' inheritance!"

KarenH and Ellen,
I have replaced hardware in sticks and bricks kitchen. If you are handy enough to do the replacement of the parts, you can take the existing hinges off, spray paint them black (if you are planning to use black hardware) and save a lot there. Just a thought.

Re Black Formica
Hi. Diana and I have black Formica in our new Escape 19 (Basalt slate 3690-58) and we love it. Also got a number of positive comments on it at the rally last weekend.

Ellen, the darker Formica can look very classy. I particularly like the dark Formica in Karen's 15, which I think she mentioned has the radiance finish, not the matte. If I were going dark, I'd probably go with radiance, provided it's available for that color.
