That much rear weight may impact your towing. Also there is a limit on that receiver, possibly 150 lbs, are you weighing the contents?

Three two inch bars. I would guess 15# each. Aluminum box 80#, gen. Lock hold down about 15#, gas can holder maybe 2#. Generator guess 60#, full tank gas 40# so less than 250# but it's a guess for now. Drove 1200 miles for hunting with no problem.

I just have the single bike hitch receiver and I worry about slop in the cargo carrier causing damage. I've driven a wedge into the hitch receiver to try to prevent it from rocking side-to-side.
I also keep the weight down as much as possible and check tongue weight with a Sherline scale.
Have you checked yours with the box loaded for travel?

With the three hitches there is no wobble. The hold down for the gen. Is two parts. The bottom is bolted to the box. The other bolts to the honda 2000 gen. They slide together and lock in place. The gas can is locked so it can't move either.

Also, just for the sake of it, what did it cost ( including hitch receivers install ) compared to ETI's box?

Haven't checked tongue weight yet. But I didn't have a control problem on my trip.

And, because I already ran into this issue. How do you access your spare tire? I found I would have to remove the box to access the nuts that hold the spare on. Couldn't turn the wrench because it would hit the box.

If you need to haul a genset, that is one solid looking setup.

Cost? Depends if my wife reads this. Bars drilled ready to go. $60.00, box $800.00, gen. Lock about $200.00, gas can holdown $45.00 aluminum 2x4 to mount gas can holdown $55.00. I guess $1160.00. Convenience priceless.

To get to the spare tire I just pull the three locking pins and the box slides out. The bars go in the length of the hitch. I can also attach a bike rack on the middle support by using a slide in attachment.

Mine was held on with four U-bolts with the nuts on the inside of the box.
It's now held on with a ratchet strap and secured with a cable so it can't walk away.
The box was free, sort of.

Gbaglo ,i almost went the same route as you but I could find a carrier the would hold the size box I needed. This way there is no carrier, just the bars that slide in with the box bolted to them. The factory installed receivers worked great. Thanks Jim for your reply also.

I forgot, I like to carry our Webber charcoal grill with us so this was the reason for the big box.

My cargo carrier ( without the box and contents ) weighs a fair amount all on its own ( 75 lbs I recall ). Was the lightest carrier I could find to accommodate the box I already had.
Adds two feet to the cost of a BC Ferry ticket so I've often thought of removing it. But, where would the stuff go?
