I don't sleep on the dinette, but Dirk has and since he can sleep on anything and prefers a firm mattress, I think he'll be just fine on it the next time he goes on a trip with me.
Laura,
Please give us more detail about your dinette seat foam change. Last night Vicky and I were talking about how our butts sink down to the wood on our seats and if we should switch to a denser foam.

Where did you buy the denser foam?
Did you re-use the seat cushion covers or have new ones made? We have enough material to get new covers made if needed.
Did you put denser foam on the back seat of the U-dinette or just the side seats?

We have not had a problem, I wonder if there have been differing batches of foam used. One thing you could look at doing, is to have a foam shop take off an inch or so of the existing, and just put a firmer layer on the bottom. This works great for foam mattresses. Just a thought.......

Joanne Fabric sells foam, not sure of the densities or thicknesses they carry. I got mine at Osgood Textile Osgood Textile which happens to be close by. Kind of nice as you bring them the whole cushion and they cut it to size. Might check with one of the small mattress manufacturers if you have one around. I had looked at mail order but shipping was prohibitive.

I got it from a local place here in the Seattle area - Foam Rubber City. I just looked at the invoice and it says 4" x 48" Premium Foam. I was told it's a 7 year foam. It is denser than what ETI supplies, which is fine for some folks, but not everyone (I know of others that have put another layer below the supplied foam).

I used the already sewn fabric that came with the trailer, even though I have wads of extra fabric. I did not replace the foam on the back (and sides) as I have wads of pillows I can put behind me when lounging on the dinette, including one from Select Comfort/Sleep by Number that's made for using in bed (it's denser at the bottom and provides me with tons of support).

I was thinking that I might have them make 2" cushions to put under what I had already but later I realized that wouldn't work as there wouldn't have been clearance for the flip down tables on the ends to actually flip down (I don't use the supplied table top).

One thing they did was put in foam that was longer than what was originally used. They said that would remove the wrinkles in my cushions, of which there were tons of 'em. I thought it was due to putting the hypermesh stuff behind the seat backs, but it wasn't. I don't have any cushion wrinkles any longer - I'm super thrilled over that as it was pretty bad before. They said the pressure of the longer foam would remove the wrinkles. Yay!

After my recent 2000+ mile trip and lounging on the cushions every day of that 12 day trip, I can tell ya that I LOVE my new cushions!!! My butt and back didn't get sore after reading for a while or many hours. I was super thrilled.

I've already used some of the original foam for something else; not sure what I'll use the rest for, but it's stashed in the attic until whenever. The new foam cost almost 500 smackers, but it was really worth it.

I would not use the foam from JoAnn's for sitting on. It's not very dense. Plus, they won't cut it for you to whatever sizes you want.

The folks I got mine from do upholstery repair so I'd start looking around in your local area in that category and go from there.

That Iis surprising on a new trailer. Our 3 year old 21 cushions are still firm; we do both weigh < 175 lbs YWMV.

I built a mattress for my 17B using foam from www.foamorder.com. Use the menu "Mattress/Foam Mattress" to see descriptions of a number of different mattress foams, complete with recommendations.

They describe using the different mattress foams as cushions as well as mattresses, including different selections for sitting as well as backs.
